My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Animal Profile: Poe is an estimated 9-month-old, 33 lb male mixed breed (the shelter aged him at 5 months but he has all his adult teeth and we think he is closer to 9 months). He was a stray intake to the Caddo Parish shelter and despite his friendly temperament and ideal size, he was overlooked again and again. Poe is social and friendly with other dogs.

Foster Update: Poe is such a special boy. He is a happy-go-lucky pup full of playful and affectionate energy. He’s settled in quickly with his foster family and does well with the resident dog and cat. Poe sleeps soundly in his crate and will put himself in during the day for naps after tuckering out. He’s a bit of a goofball and smiles a lot. He’s super smart and with the right structure and committed leadership he is capable of learning so much. He already has a fair amount of basics down (sit, wait, come and kennel). Poe does great in the car and is pretty good on leash and happy to be wherever his people are. He’s a really great dog with so much love to give!

4/22/24 Update: Poe is currently living in a home with multiple dogs and young kids; he happily goes on adventures with volunteers such as hiking or trip to local breweries. Poe will alert when new people come to the home but is social and friendly meeting people. Poe needs a person who will create boundaries in the beginning or else he will test treating humans like his dog playmates with jumping and mouthing. Once he knows the rules he's quite happy to comply. He loves to run and wrestle with other dogs but reads social cues from dogs who do not want to play with him. We'd like to see him in a home with a resident energetic and tolerant canine companion.

Adoption Info: Adoption fee is $550 which includes spay/neuter, core vaccinations per AVMA standards, heartworm test if applicable, microchip with registration, and health certificate. Your adoption fee may be tax deductible as DGS is a 501c3 organization. All adoption fees go toward the care of all dogs in our rescue.
