My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Dory is looking forward to the good life with a loving family. She is shy and gentle and didn't deserve to be abandoned at a shelter. She will enjoy being in a home and with plenty of food since she only weighs 39 pounds. She is eager to go for walks, walks well on a leash, and likes to explore. She knows the sit command and may know something about house training because she seems to know to do her business outside. She is cooperative and easy to handle. She enjoys sitting on a lap and being petted. She gives free kisses and is very affectionate. She is jumpy when she wants to be close. We haven't seen her interact with children or other dogs but she is interested in her shelter neighbors. Please offer sweet Dory the home and family she deserves. (tw 3/16/2024)

Foster update: She now weighs 44 pounds. She is crate trained if taken out often. She is easygoing, friendly, playful, and rough with other dogs. She has been around cats and ignores them. She is high energy. (tw 4/28/2024)

More about this shelter

Citizens For Animal Protection, founded in 1972, is committed to sheltering, rescuing, and placing homeless animals in loving homes; advocating respect and compassion for all animal life; providing humane education to prevent animal cruelty; and raising awareness in the community of the needs of animals.

CAP is proud to announce that through life-saving adoption and transfer programs and a lot of hard work, we have maintained a placement rate of over 93% for all homeless pets surrendered to our shelter in 2021. In 2021, CAP provided care for 10,260 animals; this includes animals surrendered by the public and transferred in from animal control agencies and rescue groups, animals already in the shelter and foster care program, feral cats trapped/neutered/returned and animals receiving vaccinations and other treatments in our low-cost vaccination clinic, The Cornelius Clinic.
