My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Asher is a gorgeous, athletic Chinese Crested being fostered in Greenville, SC. He has so many cute mannerisms-- our favorites are: the way his little tongue pokes out most of the time; the way he wiggles his but when it's time to go outside; and the way he love to snuggle up right against you under the covers.

He is nine years old and is a muscular 13.5 lbs. Asher is looking for a home where he can be the center of attention, and where his people are home more often than not. Asher really likes squeaky toys, cuddle time, and running around on squirrel patrol.

Asher came into the rescue as an owner surrender due to no fault of his own - just a change in financial circumstance. He has been around other dogs and does okay, but he is much more interested in people than the other dogs. Asher will often show lap guarding behavior and would rather not share his person with another dog. A home where he is the only pet would be ideal. If there is another dog in the home, it would be best if Asher is the only "lap dog" and the owner should be willing to work with him in this area. He is overly enthusiastic around cats, so they are not a good fit for him. He would be fine with kids 12 yrs and older.

Even though he's an older dog, he hasn't slowed down much! Asher has a plenty of energy and will need a home where he gets lots of opportunity for exercise and activity. He enjoys the chance to go on leash walks, and also loves time outside in the yard-- especially now that the weather is warming up and there are many squirrels to chase! If his adopter does not have a fenced yard, they should be active enough to provide him with multiple walks throughout the day, including at least one lengthy outing.

Asher will do best in a home where his caretakers are home more often than not. If someone is retired, works from home, or has alternating schedules, or works only part-time out of the home, that would be best. He can be crated or left out with a belly band when left home alone, and there's certainly no issue with someone being away from home for things like errands, appointments, etc.

He is very food motivated and is on a prescription diet due to very occasional GI issues. He has had no GI issues so far in foster care (2 months) and an adopter should just keep him on his prescribed diet and provide him with a routine where he gets his energy out and has minimal alone time. This helps keep his system happy and healthy. This is the only health issue he has shown, and received a clean bill of health from the vet on exam. His bloodwork came back with everything normal, and the rescue has a detailed history from his last four years.

Overall, Asher is a great dog and in the right home, he'll settle into a daily routine where he gets healthy food, plenty of activity, love and kindness. That's what every dog deserves! Asher is neutered, up to date on vaccinations, heart worm negative, and chipped. Any interested adopter should be within driving distance of Greenville, SC- however far is reasonable for you. Applications and inquiries are welcome.

Their adoption process

Additional adoption info

If you are interested in one of our available dogs, the first step you need to take is completing an adoption application.  Once your application is received, it will be forwarded to a volunteer for review. We strive to ensure the best suited home for each of our rescue dogs so there is a lifetime of love for the dog and the adopter.  Completion of an application does not guarantee you will be the adopter of any dog.

Here is how the process goes:
Step 1:  Complete our adoption application including vet and personal references.

Step 2:  All veterinary and personal references will be contacted, so please be sure to inform them ahead of time to expedite this part of the process.  Your vet reference(s) will need to confirm that any current pets you own are spayed/neutered and current on HW prevention.  If our volunteer feels any major concerns after speaking with your references, the application process ends here.

Step 3:  One of our volunteers will conduct an applicant interview and home visit.  This allows us the opportunity to get to know you, your lifestyle, home environment, and to determine if your family is the best fit.  All members of your household must be present for the home visit.  If our volunteer has any major concerns after your home visit, or if you refuse a home visit, your application will be denied at this point.

Step 4:  Once your application has been approved, we will coordinate a time for you to meet the dog you are interested in adopting.  This could occur at your home or the foster's home.  If after meeting, the foster parent does not feel you are the best fit for the dog, your application will be denied.

Step 5:  When you reach this stage, you will be required to sign an adoption contract and provide payment of the adoption fee for the dog.  The foster parent will coordinate with you to transfer the dog over to you.

Any travel arrangements are the responsibility of the adopter and must be approved by our rescue
prior to agreement of adoption.

Dog adoption fees apply to help recoup veterinary expenses.

More about this rescue

Naked Kisses Dog Rescue, aka NaKiD Rescue, is a non profit, breed specific 501(c)(3) dog rescue, based Florida, serving the southeastern United States. We operate solely on donations from our compassionate supporters and from fundraising. Our main focus and mission is rescuing Chinese Cresteds and other hairless dogs in need.

With over a decade of rescue and foster experience, we fell in love with the Chinese Crested breed along the way. This sensitive breed captured our hearts with their beautiful and silly personalities. They're incredibly loyal and make wonderful companions to their humans. They are happy to go anywhere their humans want to go, or to curl up in bed and have a Netflix marathon. In our eyes, a person couldn't ask for anything more from their beloved canine companion.

While in our foster care, all dogs receive comprehensive medical and behavioral attention so they are ready to find their perfectly matched forever homes. We are entirely dedicated to the rescue and rehabilitation of this amazing breed, while educating others on responsible pet care and ownership. We also take in other hairless breeds/mixes, and occasionally other small dogs in need of rescue.
