My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Introducing Cassia, who seems to prefer the name Stella. She is a flat-coat retriever mix, solid black with a subtle white spot on her chest. She’s 55 pounds at 11 months old , tall with long legs. And she is a total sweetheart.
She has had a hard life so far but is ready for all the love she deserves. Life as a stray and in shelters has left her very timid. It takes her longer to accept new people and feel at ease in new environments. But once she decides someone is safe, she gives all her love. She adores her people and seems to think she’s a lap dog.
But even at nearly a year old, she is very much a puppy, and an untrained one at that. She must have an adopter who will be patient with her, and get her the training she needs to succeed. She’s eager to learn and wants to please. She has been very good with her house training and had very few accidents. She loves her kennel and sleeps quietly all night after a protest or two. She walks well on leash except when startled by something unexpected. She loves cats and plays gently with them. She has so far been reluctant to engage with our four rowdy dogs. But she lived with 20 dogs at one time. She will need a fenced yard to do zoomies in, and she must be on a secure leash when not in a secure yard. Traffic noise will spook her, especially sirens. But with patience and love, she can overcome her fears and live her best life. She has lots of love to give. Additional adoption info

You are required to sign a legally binding contact on your new pet. As part of that contract, should you no longer be able to keep the animal for any reason, the animal MUST be surrendered back to SAAP. This is to ensure the animal is placed back in foster care while we secure a new approved home for the animal. However, we always try to ensure that the initial placement is best for the pet and your family. We reserve the right to refuse any adoption.

More about this rescue

We are an all-volunteer 501(c)3 non profit organization. We are dedicated to the rescue of animals that are in need of a forever home. Our animals are fostered in homes where we provide love, food, medical care and socialization until adoption into a new loving home. We educate on the importance of spaying and neutering of all pets.

We ensure all animals have been spayed or neutered prior to adoption. They are micro-chipped, up to date on shots and on heartworm and anti-flea medications (as age appropriate). They are ready and waiting to start their new life with their fur-ever family. Could that be you?

We need your help to continue our mission. We rely solely on donations and fundraisers. All donations are tax-deductible and 100% of your donation will go towards the rescue, care, and medical needs of the animals.
