My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Carlos
I'm new here at HSHC (and in the world, for that matter), and I'm not sure what I'm supposed to be doing. I just turned 1-year-old and always lived with my owner. But he discovered he was allergic to me, so he surrendered me here. I have yet to hear the rules of living here. I have this lovely condo, a comfy bed, and a clean litterbox, so I want to ensure I am fulfilling my job responsibilities. Do I need to do some tricks, stand on my head, or make something out of my kitty litter to earn my keep? I'm not sure about the whole "being a pet" operation. What does allergic mean? How do I make sure I don't do it again? The interviewer lady was very friendly to me, and I meowed at her and enjoyed having her pet me. She told me I was a beautiful boy with a shiny, soft coat. She didn't ask me to do anything but was happy I let her pet me. Being sweet and friendly was all I was expected to be! Hey, if that is all I have to do, I am up for the job! Although I have not lived with dogs, cats, or kids, with the proper training, I'll be a major success. 4-2-24

More about this shelter

With an open admission policy, a No-Kill philosophy, and more than 3,100 animals crossing our threshold each year, we have still maintained a 98% placement rate over the last 3 years.

This is an amazing feat for any organization…let alone one that takes in some of the most abused, injured and seriously ill animals imaginable.
