This is Lucy, maybe one of our most photogenic pups ever, and all we can say is, "Work it, girl!" Lucy was born on 11/23/23 and is pretty much your typical Husky puppy. This funny, sweet, loving little lady loves to run and play and enjoys the company of other dogs. She may try to exert some dominance while she is playing, but we think they may just be hormones, and she will be spayed before adoption. She also may need attention paid to possible resource guarding of food and toys, but it's hard to tell if this will be a problem as she currently lives with very passive dogs. Just something to watch for. She is learning not to jump or become overly excited when greeting people; this is a work in progress. She has been known to rush doors when they are opened, and we know how dangerous this is, so this will need special attention. She has terrorized small animals, so cats, rabbits, and the like are not in her future as housemates. She LOVES kids and plays wonderfully with them. She currently lives with a toddler. She also can be very cuddly and enjoys time with her people. Lucy can be timid when first meeting people, even children, but she warms up quickly. She had her first weekend sleepover with new human friends while her foster Mom was away, and they all had a great time. She is crate-trained and does not protest at all about kenneling. Lucy is a VERY smart girl, according to her foster Mom. Lucy, being very food-motivated, tells us she should be easily trained.
She would love obedience classes/training, learning new commands, and adding a food/treat puzzle to her daily routine, which would help stimulate her mind. Of course, being a Husky Princess, she will require lots of exercise. We foresee her being a great companion to share adventures, loving taking long walks/hikes, maybe biking, and, once more comfortable with people outside her circle, trips to stores. Her foster Mom would love to see her with an energetic family/person. Kids and/or other dogs for her to play with and work some puppy energy off would be a bonus, as she loves both. We think all of our dogs are perfect the way they are, but every home is not. This is why they have ended up with us. We are very thorough with this step. The first thing we do is review your application, if your veterinary references are up to par then we reach out to be sure you're still interested. Next, we contact the personal references, so please be prepared. It helps speed the process if you let your veterinarian and personal references know we will be contacting them. This step can take up to 1-2 weeks, although we try to get through it sooner.
Home Visit:
We will set up a good time with you for one of our volunteers to come meet with you. They interview all the household members, and make sure a Siberian Husky is suited for you. They will also help you understand the breed, and what they need as far as a family.
Meet & Greet:
After you have been approved for adoption, we can set you up to meet the dogs! You must bring any current pets to make sure they will get along. We have a network of foster homes, so it is preferred that you are willing to drive to meet any specific dog you are interested in. If for any specific reason you are not able to drive, transportation can usually be arraigned through volunteers, by a case-by-case basis.
