My personality

My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Akorn is a handsome and VERY loving cat who would love to be the cat that greets you when you come home after a long day of work, school, shopping, or visiting. He will enjoy getting his head and chin scratched upon your arrival home and will lovingly rub against your legs to let you know how happy he is to see you. He would be a great match for someone who works from home or is retired - it will just give him more time to spend with you!

He is 14 years old (born 3/1/2010) and he has been a faithful and loyal companion for all his years. For his first 12 years, he lived with a disabled senior woman until she passed away. At that time, we were contacted and he was adopted to another lovely senior lady for these last two years but sadly she recently passed away and he finds himself now looking for a new home once again. He is a resilient boy and the love that he received from his previous family member is carrying him through while he waits for the next phase on his journey. He is a big boy (weighing in at 21.5 pounds) so he will benefit from some weight loss.

He enjoys sitting on laps and lying next to those he cares about and he can do that for several hours at a time. He has a fun way of making sure that his face gets proper grooming – he enjoys it when someone holds a plastic comb up near his face for him to push his face and head into it. He followed his previous mom everywhere and slept with her in bed every night almost to the point of leaving no room for his person. He isn’t shy about asking for attention and grabbing for your hand if he thinks it should be petting him, especially if you have a special grooming glove that he enjoys.

Please do not let his "special needs" scare you away from this great cat! His needs are simply that he needs special food and low dust litter and we will send a good supply of both home with an approved adopter. These low dust litters also have the added benefit of helping keep your home cleaner too! He also enjoys his pet water fountain which helps keep him healthy. He will go to his new home with his special food and litter, his pet fountain, favorite dishes, and several other special things that he enjoyed in his previous home including a cat tree.

While Akorn has lived with another cat in the past, he would most likely prefer to be an only cat in his new forever home as he deserves to have all the attention for himself. However, a home with another friendly, gentle cat may be an option for him as long as the introductions are done properly. He enjoys playing and is very friendly with visitors. He would prefer a quiet home with only adults or older children and no dogs. He is front declawed and just like all Reuben’s Room cats, he is an indoor only cat.

Can you make room for him in your home and heart?
