My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

This girl has been at the shelter for way too long! Uma is a gorgeous two-year-old tabby who was rescued off of the streets and landed safely at RBARI.

She is affectionate, with a somewhat independent side. She loves the attention we give her and will likely make for a great companion. She is also not needy and seems to enjoy quiet, alone time to bathe in the sun and just be a cat. You might be her "staff", but she pays well with love and affection!

Uma shares a room with several other cats, and can almost always be found rolling around in a big pile of catnip or trying to swipe some of her roommate's food! Unfortunately being around other cats tends to stress her out- who can blame her after having to feed and defend herself on the streets? Her personality truly shines when she is able to be alone without other animals. She's a short, petite girl who cracks us up when she zooms around the room like a little brown tornado!

Because of her reaction towards other cats here at the shelter, we believe Uma would prefer to be the queen in the home and not have to share her domain with other cats. But with such a lovable, spunky personality, who needs other cats? Uma is a great cat and we know that she will bring so much life to the right home!

More about this shelter

Ramapo-Bergen Animal Refuge, Inc. is founded on the belief that all animals have a natural right to humane treatment including proper care and safe shelter. Due to overpopulation, there are insufficient homes for most cats and dogs. Some are lucky enough to find temporary shelter and a few even find permanent homes. However it is a devastating fact that the majority are either euthanized or forced to chance life without shelter.

To support our belief and to relieve the unnecessary suffering of animals, we shall:
1.Extend every effort to find, evaluate, and secure good adoptive homes for animals in our care.
2.Provide animals with medical services and behavior therapy to the extent of our ability.
3.Adhere to a “no-kill” policy: animals shall not be euthanized for the purpose of providing space for new animals.
4.Adhere to a 100% spay and neuter policy.
5.Maintain continuing humane education programs and in particular to schools.
