My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Lana was found on February 20, 2024 and was very pleasant as she wandered the street. She was easy to leash and came willingly with her now foster mom.

Lana appears to have been well cared for and would definitely love to be able to cuddle on the sofa or a bed (but she is not currently allowed to do so).

She likes belly rubs and loves to play fetch and catch (she'll get her ball and "throw" it at you to let you know she wants to play). She will destroy any toy of the fabric variety so give these to her only when you feel you have a few dollars to throw away and to give her some entertainment, lol. But don't leave her alone with it as she will eat the fabric!

The ideal toys are soft rubber, but once the toy hardens, dispose of it because it then becomes a "let's see if we can eat this object" to her.

Lana would love to be able to run around off leash - dog zoomies are an occasional thrill for her and fun to watch.

Lana saw the kids in the yard behind me playing basketball and sat to watch them play (since she couldn't join in) so I'm pretty sure she would love playing with kids. She's energetic so watch her around small children - don't want them to get knocked over.

Lana listens well and understands when a timeout is needed (mostly due to over stimulation and needing a rest) and will willingly lay in her crate and will also just go there to rest.

She gets really excited around young men so that leads me to believe that's who was possibly spoiling her. She does need to control her excitement and we are working on that.

Lana likes toilet paper rolls so do not leave her alone with access to the bathroom!! She will unroll and eat the cardboard tube!

Lana's a really sweet dog. Only damage done besides the toilet paper was to her doggie bed. But that was really my fault because I had to leave the house and did not check to be sure her toys were in the kitchen (where I block her in) before I left.

Lana will adapt to your schedule easily. Instinct says she may do well with an older dog but definitely no small dogs/cats/animals.

Go meet their pets

At this time, Familiar Hearts Animal Society meetings are by appointment only.

We currently rely on our amazing web of generous fosters throughout the Philadelphia area and will do our best to make a meeting as convenient as possible for both human + animal.

Meetings will need to be coordinated through the foster of the animal you are interested in meeting.

More about this rescue

Mission Statement: To end the unnecessary suffering of homeless companion animals by serving as a refuge and enabling humans to provide them quality and compassionate homes.

Our Vision: Our mission is two-fold; we want to help abandoned pets and we want to help stop pet abandonment.

We operate using a network of kind hearted hands to help find homeless animals veterinary and behavior care and then match them with appropriate forever homes. We also strive to educate pet owners about resources they might utilize in order to best understand how to provide for their friends with furry paws, feathers or claws. We always do our best to help.
