My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Sugar, a charming 13 year old mini Dachshund, is like a little sunbeam that warms your heart. Initially shy, she blossoms into your devoted companion once she gets to know you. Her loyalty knows no bounds, and she’ll follow you around like a faithful shadow.

Environment

Sugar is house trained and crate trained, but she doesn’t like to be in the crate if you’re home. She’s a very clever girl and quickly learned to ring the bell to go outside after watching the resident dogs. She needs to be on a regular schedule and go outside every 4-5 hours. With her tiny tail perpetually wagging, Sugar has explored every nook and cranny of her foster home. Her curiosity knows no bounds and she has adapted well to her free reign within the house. She’s content without attempting to climb furniture or tackle stairs.

Pets & People

Sugar is great with adults and children, she’s a very sweet and loyal girl. She does bark when there are visitors but she’s fine once she sniffs them out. She would likely have no trouble settling into a home with other dogs. She needs feeding separately otherwise she will try to help the others finish their food.

Health

Sugar is a little overweight so she needs to watch the treats and stick to her regular diet and exercise. She has been working on losing weight, but she is very passionate about eating and loves her snacks. She has started to get the zoomies in the morning which will surely help her lose another few pounds.

Location

In summary, Sugar’s blend of loyalty, curiosity, adaptability, and warmth makes her a delightful addition to any family. She is available for adoption from Danielson, CT. Please email miguel@mantunes.com with any questions or complete an adoption application at the button above. The adoption fee for Sugar is $200.

Their adoption process

Additional adoption info

6 Step Adoption Process

1) Application - (While we encourage you to let us know on your application if one of our dogs has captured your interest, we use this simply as a guide for matching and your listing of specific dog in no way implies claim to this particular dog)

NOTE: Adoption Applications expire 6 months from the date of receipt. If you have already submitted an Adoption Application and it has been longer than 6 months, you will need to fill out a new Adoption Application.

2) Reference Checks - All references will be checked prior to home visit. We will contact your current vet, if you have one, for a reference.

3) Application Review - Processor reviews the application, calls the vet if you have one, verifies vaccinations and spay/neuter. We email personal references (if email is provided) or call them if necessary. Email is best since as references can respond when they are available.

4) Home Visit - A volunteer will come to your home to visit with you and discuss care of dachshunds. Also, the volunteer will look for any potential problems and check to be sure that your fencing is secure. Your home visit does not mean you have been approved.

5) Approval - After the above steps have been completed all your information will be reviewed and a decision will be made about adoption. If at this point you are approved to adopt, LPDR will help guide you to the appropriate dog for your family.

6) Contract - For the protection of the dogs we place, everyone that adopts a dachshund from LPDR will be required to sign an adoption contract.

Are you looking for an opportunity to foster a dachshund? Fostering is our transitional step from a shelter/surrender to a forever home. During this time it’s important that we give each dachshund a safe environment where it can learn to trust again, to heal and to learn how to become a loving family member. Many of the dachshunds that we pull from shelters or receive from an owner surrender just need a temporary home until their new forever home can be found. Please go to our website (www.LittlePawsDR.org) to learn more.

More about this rescue

Little Paws Dachshund Rescue is a foster-based, non-profit animal rescue that specializes in finding permanent homes for dachshunds, dachshund mixes, and other small dogs. It is LPDR’s goal to identify abandoned, mistreated, or homeless dogs and oversee their treatment and well being while working to find loving owners for those in our care. We strive to make the lives of all dogs better through action, advocacy, awareness and education.
