My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Duchess Bio

Duchess is an easygoing and loyal companion. She’s a 10 year old, 27 lb mix and she’s bonded to her brother, Oscar. She likes to split her time between snuggling and roaming. She’s looking for a new crew to match her young-at-heart, affectionate nature.

Environment

Duchess is house trained, but untested in a crate. She would love a home with a fenced yard because she loves to spend time wandering around outside. Neither she nor Oscar are escape artists, they love to be with their people and they are great on walks. They’ll be fine in a home with shared walls as they’re not very vocal. This dynamic duo are used to a home with people around a lot of the time, so that’s what they are looking for.

Pets & People

Duchess is very amicable with everyone! Dogs and people of all sizes—she just wants to be buddies. She loves to get pets from everyone, boss Oscar around and hang out.

Health

Duchess is a little overweight so she needs to watch the treats and stick to her regular diet and exercise.

Location

Duchess is available for adoption from Gastonia, NC. She’s good in the car so location shouldn’t limit your application. Please email Lauren.skufca@gmail.com with any questions or complete an adoption application at the button above. The adoption fee for Duchess is $250.

Their adoption process

Additional adoption info

6 Step Adoption Process

1) Application - (While we encourage you to let us know on your application if one of our dogs has captured your interest, we use this simply as a guide for matching and your listing of specific dog in no way implies claim to this particular dog)

NOTE: Adoption Applications expire 6 months from the date of receipt. If you have already submitted an Adoption Application and it has been longer than 6 months, you will need to fill out a new Adoption Application.

2) Reference Checks - All references will be checked prior to home visit. We will contact your current vet, if you have one, for a reference.

3) Application Review - Processor reviews the application, calls the vet if you have one, verifies vaccinations and spay/neuter. We email personal references (if email is provided) or call them if necessary. Email is best since as references can respond when they are available.

4) Home Visit - A volunteer will come to your home to visit with you and discuss care of dachshunds. Also, the volunteer will look for any potential problems and check to be sure that your fencing is secure. Your home visit does not mean you have been approved.

5) Approval - After the above steps have been completed all your information will be reviewed and a decision will be made about adoption. If at this point you are approved to adopt, LPDR will help guide you to the appropriate dog for your family.

6) Contract - For the protection of the dogs we place, everyone that adopts a dachshund from LPDR will be required to sign an adoption contract.

Are you looking for an opportunity to foster a dachshund? Fostering is our transitional step from a shelter/surrender to a forever home. During this time it’s important that we give each dachshund a safe environment where it can learn to trust again, to heal and to learn how to become a loving family member. Many of the dachshunds that we pull from shelters or receive from an owner surrender just need a temporary home until their new forever home can be found. Please go to our website (www.LittlePawsDR.org) to learn more.

More about this rescue

Little Paws Dachshund Rescue is a foster-based, non-profit animal rescue that specializes in finding permanent homes for dachshunds, dachshund mixes, and other small dogs. It is LPDR’s goal to identify abandoned, mistreated, or homeless dogs and oversee their treatment and well being while working to find loving owners for those in our care. We strive to make the lives of all dogs better through action, advocacy, awareness and education.
