My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

I am James Francis (J-mess, Jamesy, Jamsy, Jams, Mr James, Jimmy Jams) a Boston Terrier mix. I am the cutest dog in the world, and my eyes will make you melt. I look like someone took a very big handsome regal dog and shrunk me down to Boston Terrier size! I have an unusual dark brown coat that is very soft. My bark is tiny and super cute, and I like to bark at animals on TV, even the Scana bears (I calm down pretty quick tho.)

I am a very social dog who would love to have a sibling or two. I play chase, gently wrestle, and play tug with my younger foster sister, and at night I cuddle with my older foster brother.

I love both of my foster parents and will sleep in mom’s lap all evening. I also curl up in the chair beside mom’s desk and keep her company while she works.

I love soft beds, but I don’t care much for blankets. I come in from the yard when called and know how to sit and stay. I LOVE food, but don’t overfeed me or leave food on the table! Overall I’m a pretty easy going dog!

The Basics
Age: 4 years
Weight: 26.6lbs
Spayed/Neutered: Yes
Microchipped: Yes
Vaccines Up-to-Date: Yes
On Heartworm Prevention: Yes
On Flea/Tick Prevention: Yes
House-Trained: Only issue at this point is that his need-to-go-out clues are still subtle (pacing in a crate, pawing at you or a dog bed, glancing at a door), but he does let you know. So he just needs continued consistency and understanding of his small communication style.
Crate-Trained: Yes. Needs a cozy small den.
Leash Skills: Doesn’t seem to enjoy walks, but will walk with minimal pulling. Would do best with a fenced yard for playing chase with a friend, but pretty sure he could be leashed trained  with a no escape leash or harness if walks are important to his human. Is shy, but will nicely greet adults. Seemed to get scared by a kid.

Likes/Dislikes
Toys: Any and all! Shares very well with foster siblings. Ever so slight guarding/light growling with a filled kong and as food is being prepared so we just separate everyone at feeding time. Doesn't guard or compete for treats.
Other Animals: Dogs yes, was said to have a rabbit sibling. Wouldn’t trust with cats based on reactions when he sees one.
People/Kids: Ok with adults, probably not small kids.
Car Rides: Fine, though right now as he gets used to being in and out of the car, will try and get out as soon as the door opens.
Separation: Doesn’t like to be shut out of a room where mom is, but totally fine with humans leaving the house.

Their adoption process

Additional adoption info

The adoption fee is generally based on the dog's age and provides for neutering or spaying, all required shots, heartworm testing (we endorse "the new moxie-doxy" treatment for heart worms).

It is our expectation & a requirement that heartworm preventative be continued as well as any required vet visits after the pet is adopted.

If for some reason a match isn't made the first time around and you are approved, we will keep your application on file for the next opportunity to arise. Our primary goal is to place a dog in the most suitable environment, based on the animal's individual needs and its temperament. The commitment is lifelong and the Boston's interests are always foremost.

More about this rescue

All breeds have their own particular needs and rescued pets often have special requirements as well, very often in want of medical care, often lacking nourishment and kindness, and often expensive to rehabilitate.

Because we have had Boston Terriers for many years, we are very familiar with their habits, peculiarities and their special needs.

We operate across the southeast under the auspices of the Boston Terrier Rescue Network. We share information and resources in all of the USA with affiliated Boston Rescues.
