My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Ruger may be named after a firearm company, but there’s nothing dangerous about this guy. Ruger is a lovebug! And he’s handsome too, with unique two-toned fur of tan and black, precious forehead wrinkles, and caramel colored eyes. Ruger recently attended our monthly packwalk and his handler said he was very polite meeting people, didn't bark at other dogs, and absolutely adored all of the attention he received! Ruger loves taking in all the new smells and sights around him, then he quickly becomes your buddy. Once he warms up, Ruger is quite affectionate and playful. He gives lots of hugs and kisses and wants to be in your lap. He plays toys and chase, and is very treat motivated. Although he came in as a stray, Ruger knows “sit” and “down.” Watching Ruger open up and allowing his personality come out in a short play session suggests that he will do well in a foster (or forever!) home where he can show all of his best qualities. Take Ruger home today, and watch this handsome boy blossom!

More about this shelter

CARING FOR SOUTH JERSEY PETS SINCE 1947
Founded in 1891 and incorporated in June 1947, we are a non-profit organization and a chapter of the NJ State SPCA. The staff and board of trustees are deeply involved and committed to all aspects of animal care and welfare. The money to finance the shelter comes from fees charged to municipalities to house their stray animals, fees charged to adopt, reclaim or release an animal to us, dues, donations, grants, fund-raisers and bequests from caring individuals. In our function as a humane society, the shelter serves as a refuge for thousands of stray, unwanted, abused, abandoned and sick animals
