My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Trooper, a delightful chunky strong older lady with a heart of gold. Trooper found herself in a shelter after being brought in as a stray, but she hasn't let her past dampen her spirits. As a people lover, Trooper has quickly become a favorite among volunteers. Trooper has master the art of sit and working on down. Trooper thrives on attention and loves nothing more than receiving pets and affection from her human companions.

However, Trooper does have some reactivity issues around other dogs, making it necessary for her to be the only dog in her new home. Additionally, she would do best in a low-density dog traffic area to help manage her interactions.
Despite her quirks, Trooper's loyalty and affection make her an ideal companion for the right family willing to provide her with the love and attention she deserves.

More about this shelter

The Maryland SPCA connects wonderful pets to loving owners. We are not affiliated with any national animal organization, and we do not receive any government or United Way funding. Our mission is to prevent cruelty and neglect of animals through fostering the humane relationship between animals and people. We operate primarily in the Greater Baltimore Metropolitan area.

To make sure that our dogs and cats do not contribute to the pet overpopulation problem, every one is spayed or neutered before going into a new home. The cost is included in the adoption fee, as are the costs of shots and other necessary care. In addition, a free Positive Pooch class is available to our dog adopters.

There is no set time limit for how long an animal can remain in our adoption program. As long as an animal maintains general good health and a sound temperament, we keep him or her until adopted. We pride ourselves on providing premium care to the animals in a clean, pleasant environment. Our adoption staff works diligently to pair up adopters with the best animal match for their homes and lifestyles.

We transport animals from other shelters to our adoption center to help more animals get adopted. We also help pet owners find new homes for their pets so their animals don’t need to enter shelter care.
