My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

There's nothing quite like puppy sweetness and silliness...and then they put their beautiful heads quietly on your shoulder breathing their warm baby breath. These gorgeous puppies are so pure and vulnerable (with their whole lives lying in front of them) that it's unbearable to think of them homeless and alone or in a high-kill shelter scheduled for euthanasia due to lack of space.

Callie is a stunning 3 and a half month old, 5 lb Mini Schnauzer / Cairn Terrier mix with all the great traits that make this breed mix among the most popular available today. Callie is anticipated to be approximately 10-15 pounds of pure cuteness when full-grown.

Callie is starting out with great energy. This sweet puppy is blossoming in her foster home as she learns about living in a safe and nurturing environment with love and kindness . Callie's self esteem is growing each day with love and nurturing from her foster family. She's learning that she's a wonderful girl who has so much to offer a dog-crazy Colorado family.

This gorgeous girl's forever family will need to make a lifelong commitment to periodic grooming (approximately every 8 weeks) and excellent nutrition (5 star food and a daily salmon oil supplement are perfect lifelong protocols for general longevity and hair care) to keep Callie's coat super-healthy, shining and as soft as cotton.

Callie is appropriately playful and inquisitive for her young age. She's also so loving and cuddly once comfortable in her environment. This snuggly little girl would be very excited to be a couch potato and snuggle close with her favorite people at the end of an active day. It's clear that this puppy is SO smart and sweet - very typical of the Schnauzer personality. Many would say these two breeds are among the most intelligent and intuitive in the dog world.

Since Callie is just a puppy, she's a blank slate waiting for a kind and patient human to show her the way. She has all the potential in the world to be an awesome adult companion and will form firm bonds with her family. She'll learn positive socialization skills through virtual or in-person positive reinforcement puppy kindergarten followed by force-free Obedience Classes. These classes will make a profound difference in a puppy's ultimate behavior and in his relationship / bonding with their people. It does take time and commitment, yet pays off a thousand times over when you have a dog that can accompany you out in the world with excellent behavior.

Farfel's Rescue feels very strongly that every dog deserves the opportunity for formal, positive reinforcement / force-free training classes. We therefore aren't willing to adopt Callie out to a home that doesn't choose to offer her this training opportunity. Farfel's is happy to provide a list of approved virtual and in-person positive reinforcement/force-free trainers in your area.

We're open to Callie finding her forever home with a retired couple or individual with lots of energy to train and enjoy a silly and super-smart puppy. A younger couple or individual that works from a home-based office would also be a great choice for a puppy that would love nothing more than getting loved up periodically throughout the day. Callie enjoys her relationships with all humans and dogs. We would prefer, however, to place her in a home with older kids (tail pulling or rough treatment will create an adult dog that's fearful of children). Older kids can also be active participants in a training regimen and friendship that's so important in a dog's development.

Callie will be up to date on her vetting/vaccinations to be in line with our commitment to only adopting out healthy dogs. Extensive new research shows that Callie is far too young to be spayed at this time. When she's approximately 9 - 12 months old, Farfel's is happy to cover all costs for Callie's neuter if one of our rescue vets is used. Spay is required to finalize any adoption per Colorado law.

Applications are currently being accepted for this stunning and sweet as can be puppy. An adoption application can be found at http://farfels.com/farfels-rescue/adoption-form/. If interested, please fill out completely and submit.
