My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Base a Pit Cane Corso mix with a story to tell. Surrendered through no fault of his own, Base hails from a home where he was deeply loved and cherished. His previous owners want potential adopters to know that Base was a cherished member of their family, and they have nothing but the highest praise for him.

Base is known as a gentle giant, who loves to cuddle. He's quick to bond with humans and is very easy to train. He picks up tricks very quickly.

In Base previous home, he coexisted harmoniously with another dog, showcasing his friendly and sociable nature. While he adores toys, he has yet to explore the world of soft toys, preferring more durable options for playtime.

When it comes to children, it's important to note that Base's size and energy level make him better suited for homes with older kids. While he adores human company, his exuberance could inadvertently knock over smaller children. However, Base thrives in the presence of teenagers.

Base is and educated dog who's had some great training already. He's well-versed in cues like "sit," "stay," and "safe" (a unique command where he positions himself protectively between your legs facing outward). Additionally, he's housebroken and crate trained, making him an ideal candidate for any loving home.

If you're searching for a loyal and intelligent companion who's eager to become part of your family, look no further than Base.

More about this shelter

The Maryland SPCA connects wonderful pets to loving owners. We are not affiliated with any national animal organization, and we do not receive any government or United Way funding. Our mission is to prevent cruelty and neglect of animals through fostering the humane relationship between animals and people. We operate primarily in the Greater Baltimore Metropolitan area.

To make sure that our dogs and cats do not contribute to the pet overpopulation problem, every one is spayed or neutered before going into a new home. The cost is included in the adoption fee, as are the costs of shots and other necessary care. In addition, a free Positive Pooch class is available to our dog adopters.

There is no set time limit for how long an animal can remain in our adoption program. As long as an animal maintains general good health and a sound temperament, we keep him or her until adopted. We pride ourselves on providing premium care to the animals in a clean, pleasant environment. Our adoption staff works diligently to pair up adopters with the best animal match for their homes and lifestyles.

We transport animals from other shelters to our adoption center to help more animals get adopted. We also help pet owners find new homes for their pets so their animals don’t need to enter shelter care.
