My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Max, a striking black cat with a presence that commands attention. Born in June 2016, Max is a handsome feline with a sleek coat and piercing green eyes. While his exterior exudes confidence, Max is a cat with a complex personality, best suited for a patient and understanding adopter.

Max is fiercely independent, preferring to chart his own course rather than follow the crowd. He's a cat who values his solitude and enjoys spending quiet moments lounging in his favorite spot. Despite his aloof demeanor, Max has a heart of gold waiting to be discovered by the right person.

However, Max's shyness can sometimes be mistaken for grumpiness. He's a timid soul who takes time to warm up to new people and environments. Loud noises and sudden movements can startle him, so he's seeking a calm and serene home where he can feel safe and secure.

With the guidance of an experienced adopter, Max has the potential to blossom into a loyal and loving companion. Patience and understanding are key when building trust with this gentle soul, but the rewards are immeasurable.

If you're looking for a cat who's as mysterious as he is beautiful, consider opening your heart and home to Max. With a quiet environment and a patient adopter by his side, Max is sure to thrive and become the faithful companion he was always meant to be. Adopt Max today and embark on a journey of love and companionship with this remarkable feline!

Additional adoption info

1) Adoptions are BY APPOINTMENT ONLY. The first step is to email us at AHcatadoption@gmail.com. Be sure to include your full name, age, address, and phone number. We will respond as soon as possible to answer your questions and schedule an appointment to visit our shelter. If you have already submitted an inquiry through Adopt-a-Pet or Petfinder about a particular cat, there is no need to send a separate email.
2) During your appointment, you will complete a questionnaire and work with an adoption coordinator to find the cat that is right for you. This process may involve meeting with numerous cats, or even making more than one visit to Animal House. You and your new cat will live together for a lifetime, so this step is important.
3) Before adoption, we ensure that your cat has been spayed or neutered, microchipped, and vaccinated.

More about this shelter

Animal House Cat Rescue and Adoption Center is a private, non-profit, “no-kill” organization dedicated to providing the homeless, abandoned cats and kittens of St. Louis with a better life. We are committed to maintaining an adoption center that provides a safe, healthy and enriching environment, and our goal is a solid and lasting adoption for every cat and kitten in our care.

Animal House opened in 2010 when the City of St. Louis closed its municipal shelter and ended a number of services for stray animals. Not only did the 75 cats residing in their shelter need a place to go, the St. Louis community needed services for abandoned, homeless cats. Animal House was born out of that need. Today we house 200-250 cats and kittens at any given time.

The cats and kittens at Animal House are rescued from the streets of our community and often come from challenging circumstances that include neglect, abandonment, or injury. We have created a safe place where cats in need find shelter, medical and nutritional support, individualized socialization and interaction, enrichment, lots of love, and the opportunity to connect with a loving, lifelong family. We impose no time limit on this process, giving each cat or kitten the time they need. We emphasize matchmaking throughout our adoption process to ensure the best possible match.
