My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Blue is a Mini Australian Shepherd, is 2yo, weighs 42lbs, is neutered, is up to date on his vaccines, and is microchipped.  Blue's guardian adds:  "He is reactive and I am always concerned when leaving my condo to take him on walks.  He's afraid of strangers and is leash reactive to people or sometimes dogs.  I am afraid of running into people in the halls and it is very concerning living next to children.  He does not have a yard to run around in.  I take him to the park regularly and walk him four times a day, but it is not enough.  I have a camera that I watch and check him as often as I can when at work.  I leave the television on dog tv when I leave. This way of living is not sustainable for him or me.  When I am at work, he stays out in my condo.  He's very good about not chewing and knows his routine.  He usually sleeps on floor in my bedroom or at the end of my bed.  He enjoys car rides.  He does sometimes try to get in the front seat.  For the most part he is great in the car.

I have tried behavioral training.  It was somewhat helpful, but I know that Blue is not in the correct environment to thrive.  He knows basic commands including 'sit', 'stay', 'lay down', 'roll over', 'wait', and 'place'.  He is extremely smart and fast to catch on to commands.  He has gone to special training as a puppy called Sit Means Sit.  They encouraged the use of a shock collar, which I do not currently use.  I have looked into more training, but I cannot afford to spend more thousands of dollars.  I keep a consistent schedule.  I give him chews and kongs when I leave.  I have a dog walker that comes twice a day when I work.  I have family close by that also helps walk and take him when I am not there or have something to do.  I feel exhausted and Blue is still having behavioral problems and unhappy."

Blue's guardian explains why she has made the difficult decision to rehome him:  "My condo is not the ideal home for Blue.  He is restless and paces all day when I am at work.  He barks when he hears people outside my door, which is often as I live next to four other people/families.  I have been contacted by my property manager that he barks constantly and it must be resolved quickly, or he will have to go."

Scratch/attack/lunge incident:  "Nobody has been attacked.  He lunges on the leash.  He can scratch when jumping on you because he is excited.  He has attacked a cat.  Animal control was not involved.

Blue's guardian states the following regarding children:  Blue hasn't lived with or otherwise been around children, so his guardian doesn't recommend his living with children, stating "I have never let him be around children off leash.  He is reactive on leash and gets nervous around small, running and loud children.  He will bark and lunge if they get too close on a leash.  I do not allow him around children".

Blue's guardian states the following regarding dogs:  Blue hasn't lived with or otherwise been around dogs, so his guardian doesn't recommend his living with dogs, stating "Blue gets along with most dogs.  When on a leash he may bark or whine because he wants to interact with dogs.  He has gone to boarding with other dogs outside in a field and he did great.  However, when he was a puppy he got into some fight at the dog park.  We stopped going after that.  He doesn't like smaller dogs".

Blue's guardian states the following regarding cats:  Although Blue lives with cats, his guardian doesn't recommend his living with cats, stating "He tries to hunt/chase them".

Blue's guardian describes him as:

Very active
Barks alot
Playful
Affectionate
Fearful
Protective
Always at your side
Nervous
House-Trained
Separation anxiety

Blue's guardian describes his ideal future home:

"Blue needs space to run and play, like a farm.  He would benefit from a fenced yard.  He cannot be in a household with cats, children, or small animals.  His ideal home would be quiet.  It would be extremely beneficial if the owner has experience with reactive dogs.  The owner(s) should be able to spend time with him and he should not be left alone for extended periods of time.  He may be able to go to a home with other dogs, but there is a risk with him being reactive.  He needs an experienced dog owner."
