My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet the adorable Louis Vuitton!!
Louis is a 7 yr old, 7 lb neutered Poodle Mix. He’s fully vaccinated, free of parasites and microchipped.
Louis Vuitton like his namesake found himself alone on the streets at the young age of 7. We don’t suspect he was mistreated as the famous Louis Vuitton was in real life. He shows signs he was well taken care of by his previous owners. But they never came for him. He waited at the shelter for the normal stray hold before he came to UOH.
His foster mom says this about him. Louis will be your number #1 fan. Wherever you go, he wants to be right there by your side or on your lap. In other words he’s what we in the rescue world say is a “velcro dog”. He’s sweet, cute, silly and loves attention. His vision isn’t perfect and he sometimes runs into things. But he will be faithful to you if you are his human.
We are working on his potty training skills. Louis doesn’t know how to ask to go outside, but he’s learning. He does love squeaky toys and pup cups. He’s not a picky eater and takes meds like a champ. He’s a little unsettled in the car for a few minutes but quickly calms down. He had some anxiety with the groomer but it was manageable. He will require grooming appointments every 6-8 weeks to eliminate any painful mats and keep him looking handsome. Loud noises like fireworks or police sirens frighten him. His first instinct in these situations may cause him to bolt so a harness is highly encouraged.
He’s good with other dogs and indifferent to cats, mostly he ignores them. He would succeed in a home with older children who understand his inability to see. Older adults with mobility issues would not make a great fit for Louis.
Louis is scheduled for a dental at the end of the month.
To be considered for adopting Louis we expect a detailed application with plans you have to help him be successful and feel safe. He will not be a good fit for someone gone for long periods of time.
If you are interested in this amazing guy fill out an application (must be detailed) at www.beourpet.org/adoptions.php

Umbrella of Hope does not have any strict rules on ages of children because all children are different, but our best approximation is that this animal would do best with children over the age of 12

Umbrella of Hope is an all-volunteer, donation-run, non-profit animal rescue based out of Pittsburg, CA that rescues animals from local shelters, places them in private foster homes, provides them with needed medical care and then finds them new homes.

Also, ask us about our seniors for seniors program, where we adopt animals 5 years or older to qualified homes with a $5 donation as an adoption fee. All animals are spayed/neutered, vaccinated, treated for parasites and given any additional treatments (dental work, bloodwork etc) as recommended by our vet.

Adoptions to veterans of the US Armed Services are ALWAYS free to thank you for your service.

We thank Well Pet Vet Clinic for providing most of our veterinary services and give a special thanks to volunteer photographers Tanya, Barbara, Kristy, Christine, Teressa and Natalie.

We are on all social media at @umbrellaofhope and we invite you to follow us and share which helps more people see and adopt our pets.

More about this rescue

Umbrella of Hope exists to rescue, rehibilitate, and rehome animals from shelter situations with a focus on East Contra Costa County, California. Our goal is to reduce the euthanasia of adoptable animals through increased adoptions of those animals already born. Help increase public safety by reducing the number of strays and feral animals through population control who might carry disease or pose other dangers to the community. Provide resources to pet owners to enable them to be responsible forever guardians of their companion animals. To increase public awareness of homeless pets, encourage spay and neuter of companion animals, and promote adoption for the acquisition of family pets.
