My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Sweet, but very shy, Butter Pecan is a 45 lb five-year-old spayed lab mix who was flown up from Puerto Rico around two years ago. Building trust with Butters is a slow, but rewarding process. During her time at the shelter, she's grown more and more comfortable with our volunteers and staff to the point where she's begun to accept affection and gets excited when she notices us arrive, so we're confident that while it will be a long process of working with her, she has the capacity to be a very loving dog. She thrives with canine company! When she's out in the yard with her best buddies Mike and Michael, she'll join right in when the two of them are getting pet and acts far more comfortable with their more confident personalities to bounce off of. She's a lady with simple tastes who enjoys her milk bones and a good walk with a person she trusts. Butter Pecan is up to date on her vaccines and will require a fenced in yard to adopt.

For more information on Butter Pecan, call AWS at 860-354-1350 email animalwelfare.socty@snet.net or visit our website aws-shelter.org for a pre adopt application. Adoption fees for Dogs (8yrs and up) is $150 Adult Dogs is $400 and Puppies under a year is $500 .

More about this shelter

Animal Welfare Society, Inc. is an independent, non-profit, non-destroy organization founded in 1965.

Our Mission is to aid and find loving, permanent homes for abandoned, stray, and abused cats and dogs in New Milford, Bridgewater, Brookfield, Roxbury, and Washington, Connecticut.

Each year hundreds of dogs and cats find refuge at our shelter located at 8 Dodd Road in New Milford, Connecticut. Abandoned dogs are rescued from the Regional Canine Facility in New Milford after the mandatory 7-day waiting period. AWS also makes periodic trips to New York City's overpopulated dog pounds and brings their animals to our shelter for placement. Our cats are found abandoned in the areas we serve.

From the moment these animals enter the shelter, they are no longer unwanted. Each is a special pet waiting for a caring, responsible, permanent home.
