Dr. Pepper is two and a half years old but has an old-school hound vibe. When he came to us a year and a half ago he was very shy and took a long time to trust people. He has many people and dog friends now, and once he knows you and trusts you he is quite the snuggler.

He waits patiently for that perfect person to come take him home. He is a very reasonable guy, will walk calmly on lead, and isn’t much of a crooner. Dr. Pepper loves to be stroked on his head and face-- of course he enjoys body rubs too. He plays with the toys in his room and kennel.

Dr. Pepper regularly goes to daycare at Camp Merricks and enjoys running around with other dog friends. He LOVES to play with other dogs. And often doesn't want to return to the shelter. He will need a little time and patience to adjust to his new home, but this handsome boy is totally worth it!

AS OF JANUARY 2018:
Dogs: $100 - Includes Heartworm/Lyme/Ehrlichia Test, DHLPP and Rabies Vaccination, Dewormings, flea and tick treatment (if needed), and Spaying/Neutering.

Puppies (0-6 months): $150 - Includes 3 DHLPP Vaccinations, 3 Dewormings, a Certificate for a Rabies Vaccination, flea and tick treatment (if needed), and Spaying/Neutering by a participating veterinarian.

Cats: $40 (or 2 for $50) Includes Feline Leukemia/Aids test, 2 RCP Vaccinations, Rabies Vaccination, 2 Dewormings, flea and tick treatment (if needed), and Spaying/Neutering.

Kittens (0-6 Months): $80 (or 2 for $120) includes a Feline Leukemia/Aids test, 3 RCP Vaccinations, 3 Dewormings, Certificate for a Rabies Vaccination, flea and tick treatment (if needed), and Spaying/Neutering by a participating veterinarian.

More about this shelter

Located on Stagebridge Road (Rt. 624) and Rt. 29 just two miles north of Lovingston on 2 acres of Land.
Houses animals in "real-life rooms".
A Spacious lobby/waiting room and reception area.
13 rooms for dogs which will hold 2 to 3 dogs depending on size.
4 cat rooms for multiple numbers of cats.
Two isolation rooms, one for dogs and one for cats.
A room for bathing and grooming.
A food preparation area.
A conference/meeting room.
Inside and outside exercise areas for dogs.
Open seven days a week.
Animals being surrendered by their owners are accepted on a space available basis if they are judged to be adoptable. Animals are also selected from unclaimed or unwanted animals at the Nelson County Animal Control Facility after they are evaluated by the HS/SPCA and judged to be adoptable. Strays will continue to go through Animal Control.

No animal will be put down unless it is judged to be dangerously aggressive or untreatably ill. Almost Home Pet Adoption Center now has several part-time employees
but still relys heavily on volunteer help.
