My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Hello, my name is Zeus and I think we can have a heavenly life together. I am a high-octane southern boy who needs a bit of manners training. I originally came to WCHS from an over-crowded shelter in Alabama. I was adopted for a short time by a nice family with a couple kiddos but I was not a good match for them. I was a smidge too exuberant for the toddlers and I am still working on not being mouthy and should learn to keep four on the floor. I am also still working on house-training. I know that is usually a puppy issue but when I was in the south, I never had a chance to master that skill and a shelter environment is not the best training ground for good bathroom habits. I know I sound like a works-in-progress but I am certain I can learn and will be a magnificent pooch who will make you proud. I will need a job or two in order to burn some energy and work my brain; mental exercise can be very tiring and the adage about tired dogs is very true. It would be lovely to get involved in nose work or canine sports; my shepherd ancestry makes me very versatile. It would be wonderful if we could take an obedience class together so I could improve my manners; perhaps we could even try rally. To help with house-training, in my previous home I used a wire crate when I was alone but I found that a piece of cake to break out of. One suggestion might be to try a plastic crate that is a bit sturdier. I will also need plenty of opportunities to get outside for breaks and you could even try the umbilical cord method to keep a close eye on me until my potty behavior improves. A routine, lots of yummy treats and praise will go a long way to helping me master house-training when I use the outside facilities. I have been having a blast romping in the play groups at the shelter. I really enjoy playing with other pooches but appreciate slow and proper introductions to my pals. I am a fun-loving, friendly and quite handsome; I promise to be loyal and devoted to you forever. Come by to meet me in person and discover my dynamic brilliance.

Their adoption process

Additional adoption info

Visit the shelter. We have an application that takes about 15 minutes to fill out once you have found a pet you like. You call back the next day which gives us time to review the application and gives you 24 hours to think about your decision to adopt. You can also complete our on-line application and get approved in advance of finding the perfect companion. Once approved, you are able to adopt an animal the same day.
