Benji is such a sweet boy and is settling in & getting along well with the other dogs in his foster home. This foster home has people coming and going all the time which does not seem to phase Benji. Not even the doorbell will get a rise out of this dog. No barking at the deliver person! He has wonderful potty manners and is a pretty easy keeper. He is an expert at leash walking and does it with a loose leash and no pulling! What a gentleman! Benji just had his 13th birthday and looks amazing for 13! His teeth are beautiful and clean, and his bloodwork was PERFECT! How often do we see that in a 13 year old dog?!?!?! Like many DREAM foster dogs, Benji had some needed vetting that had been neglected in his past-he had 3 masses which we had removed. Luckily they were just “fatty” and he’s healing up nicely with no long term effects.
Since Benji is such a good boy doing all his business outside, he does not need to be crated which is good because he’s definitely NOT A FAN of a crate! He’s a great sleeper and relishes an afternoon nap.
Benji does have a mild heart murmur and a bit of knee wiggle (sliding knee cap) both of which are to be expected with mature doggie and nothing too concerning. Otherwise Benji is fit as a fiddle and in amazing shape for his age .
If you are interested in adopting Benji, you can fill out an application right on our website! Go to our
online adoption application. Benji's adoption fee is $350
All adoption fees go directly to veterinary care for DREAM dachshunds. Benji will go to his / her new home microchipped, spayed/neutered, heartworm tested, up to date on vaccinations, and with all other medical needs addressed.
Almost every dog's veterinary expenses exceed our adoption fees; we are a non-profit.
DREAM is an all-volunteer rescue group. We focus on the metro Atlanta area and can assist throughout the state of Georgia.
Since our rescue is entirely run and staffed by volunteers, our ability to travel long distances for adoptions is somewhat limited. We focus on Georgia, but if you are in a neighboring state, we might be able to work something out - we'll expect you to do your part.
DREAM does not recommend purebred dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a doxie's back.
