My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Looking for the ultimate people and kid-friendly pup? Well, prepare to welcome this 58lb squishy house hippo into your home! Helga truly is a people dog. There is nothing more she loves than her people. She currently lives in a busy household with a very rambunctious 4 year old as well a 6 and 8 year old. She is incredibly tolerant of everything--loud noises, fast movements, she can be touched all over her body with no problem. She does not do any sort of resource guarding over toys, treats, food, or anything else from people. My kids frequently play with her and they can pull toys right from her mouth. She sees kids aged 1-8 regularly and she does very well meeting new people. She is insanely (not hyperbole!) affectionate and cuddly. She is constantly touching someone if at all possible—that makes a spot on the couch next to you mandatory for her preferred lifestyle…you’ll also have to be tolerant of some snoring
Helga was found as a stray in Milwaukee and it is apparent she has had a few litters of puppies in the past. She’s approximately 5 years old and she comes with every perk of adopting an adult dog. She is potty trained, crate-trained, takes treats gently, can be physically picked up (can’t quite make it in our van on her own), is a great car passenger, and knows the commands sit, shake, and lay. She walks well on a leash and is willing to walk whenever she has the opportunity. She loves to walk as my kids use their scooters and bikes. She also likes treat puzzles that she will happily entertain. She enjoys bully sticks and nylabones and is not particularly picky about her treats. She loves toys, especially ropes, and likes to play tug with my kids. She will play for a while but she also enjoys napping and can very easily settle down on a couch for hours-long Netflix binges. When we are away and at night she is crated and will enter her crate when asked. I do think she would be fine being left out both at night and when away as she has not been destructive at all. She has never even touched a kid’s toy and there are always plenty around.

Helga is looking for a home where she can be the center of your attention and the only dog. She promises she will make it up to you by loving you more than any being ever has!

More about this rescue

Canine Cupids' mission is to protect and improve the lives of homeless, neglected, and exceptional needs dogs and to place them in permanent, loving homes.

Canine Cupids is a Certified 501c3 Organization
DATCPLicense: 288601-DS

Canine Cupids work with animals, within our community and throughout our organization is guided by three core values: compassion, integrity and dedication.

Because every animal deserves to be loved, we feel it is our moral responsibility to protect and improve the lives of abused, abandoned, and homeless dogs, and to place them in loving permanent homes.

We strive to work with animal control agencies as well as other rescues and humane organizations to develop a network of supporters and volunteers in order to create a better world for homeless pets within our community.

At Canine Cupids our founding principle is that "ALL dogs are individuals and deserve to be regarded as such". This mindset is core to the belief system at The Animal Farm Foundation. It assists in securing equal treatment and opportunity for "pit bull" dogs - as well as all dogs, regardless of size, color, etc.

"We owe it to all dogs to see them for who they really are, free of prejudice, stereotypes, and assumptions that are based on a known pedigree, a breed label guess, physical appearance, or their past history."*

"Breed related traits are not guaranteed. If a dog does conform to breed traits that does not mean a dog isn't an individual! Breed characteristics may contribute to a dog?s individuality, but they are not the whole story." *

Don't judge a book by its cover and don't judge a pooch by its stereotype!
