My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Name: Peanut

Sex: Female

Estimated Age: About 2 years old

Best Guess for Breed: Mixed Breed Shepherd Dog

Weight: About 40 lbs

Good With: Dogs, cats and people (including kids!).

Story: Peanut was rescued from a shelter in North Carolina. Peanut is a happy sweetie who loves people and gets along great with other dogs, puppies, and cats. She knows just how to get comfortable up on the couch with her humans, and will love to join you on walks and trots around the neighborhood. Peanut is just looking for someone to be her new best furend and we know that she will repay them with endless amounts of love and tail wags. As a young dog, Peanut will need an adopter who is committed to setting her up for success by enrolling in obedience training and exercising her both mentally and physically. She will also need love, patience, and socialization in order to thrive!

PEANUT’S PERFECT MATCH:

PERFECT FAMILY: A home with 1-2 adults with a dog friend (maybe two?) is ideal. She previously lived with two dogs and a cat, but now is solo with occasional visits from another older dog who she is fine with. Peanut is good when guests come over, and she is friendly and curious to meet them. Having another dog in the home may help boost her confidence and show her the ropes. She would probably love living with kids who would play with her and give her extra attention.

PERFECT HOME: One with a fenced in yard, or one close to a dog park where she can run and play with other dogs. She loves to walk and explore while walking, so being close to a path or a trail would be very beneficial. She is used to living in a noisy city environment, but loves being out in the woods as well.

EXERCISE NEEDS: Peanut LOVES to go to the dog park and gets most of her exercise from playing with other dogs there. She loves running around in the dog park and wrestling with other dogs. Peanut is improving her skills on the leash. She needs some refinement in pulling on the leash and needs to work on ignoring distractions such as squirrels or other dogs. She would probably make an excellent running partner as she enjoys a good pace and focuses better when doing so.

BEHAVIOR IN HOME: Peanut is a super sweetie. She likes to be near people and will follow them around the house but is happy just to curl up on the sofa until the next walk. She doesn’t chew things or exhibit other bad behavior. She is house trained. She loves to cuddle up next to people. She rarely barks, though will do so occasionally when people leave the house.

CRATE: Peanut sleeps in her crate at night.  She is still working on doing longer periods in the crate during the day.

Color Match: ORANGE - Goofball (Socially Motivated)

  • Dog Personality — Will work for what they want, but are not as committed to pursuing their own agenda; these are considered moderate-persistence dogs.

  • Adopter Personality — Interested in doing some training and can provide regular interaction and activity.

If you think that Peanut might be your perfect match, apply today!
