My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Is your dream dog big and hairy, if so we have the dog for you?! Kaya is 120 pounds of fluffy love! This beautiful red 9 year old Malamute came to us when her people lost their home. Looking through the limited paperwork she came with she has had at least 3 homes in her life and now needs a furever home to spend her golden years in. Kaya is a very sweet and sometimes vocal girl, not a surprise with her breed. She has done well with dogs, but can not live with cats. Kaya walks well on the leash and loves car rides so will be a lot of fun to take places! Short walks and lots of couch time will keep this girl very happy! Malamute fans need to come rushing here as this fluff ball will not be here long!!

More about this shelter

We're a small shelter in Vermont covering 11 towns in Windsor County. We have a small but very dedicated staff, and an active volunteer program. We have been rescuing cats and dogs since our inception in 1941, when a wonderful woman turned her barn into a shelter. Since then we've grown quite a bit and have recently redone our entire kennel area - we have sun tubes for natural light, radiant heat in the floors, a music program and an aromatherapy program. All through the generous donations of the public. Our cats live comfortably in community cat rooms where they are free to roam and climb and play - one cat room even has a fully fenced outdoor enclosure. We have acres of field for dog walking, and a small agility course set up in an outdoor kennel. We have a large puppy room, and a larger still puppy play area outside.
