My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

JAMAICA QUEENS, NY: What he lacks in legs, sweet resilient BEAR makes up for in spirit – and love!

3-legged Bear doesn’t let his ruff start in life get him down; he is still a normal, happy dog with a wonderful personality! Bear is 2 years old and 65 lbs and had his front right leg amputated when he was attacked by another dog as a puppy. At this time, Bear does not need ongoing veterinary care pertaining to his leg, but he does need the right home (on 1 level with no stairs) and simple things, like a harness with a handle. Although Bear is non-reactive to other dogs, this was unfortunately, this was not the last time Bear was attacked. Poor 3 legged Bear was surrendered to the city shelter 2 days before Christmas with his muzzle and back covered in dog bites. His scared but gentle and friendly personality quickly made him a staff favorite as he spent the holidays in the shelter. Bear then became super lucky and has been in a loving foster home since March 2024, where he is described as the "perfect guest".

Bear is a great dog! He is super friendly with all people, with a mellow personality, never whining or barking, and previously lived with kids and a cat. Bear is easily won over with some treats, which he loves and is food-motivated. Bear has a medium energy level, who prefers to play rather than walk – playing with balls is his favorite, but he does love his stuffed animals so much he will want to bring them with him on a walk! Bear is well-mannered and easy-going in his foster home, with so much love to give! He is a snuggler who even is good in the bath. Bear is neutered, up to date on vaccines, healthy, and house-trained. With consistency, love, and a home without stairs, Bear will make the ulti-mutt loving companion!

Bear was not dealt a very fair hand in life, but he takes it all in his charming 3-legged stride. It is so easy to fall in love with Bear, and he wants to fall in love with you too!

Adoption application

Go meet their pets

AmsterDog Rescue does not have its own facility. Instead, we rely on fosters to care for our beloved animals. Our available animals may change depending on your location and we do transport animals for adoptions within a reasonable distance. Since you will possibly be speaking with and meeting a foster directly, an application must be filled out prior to meet and greets.

For adoption inquiries, please contact AmsterDog Rescue at 917-689-8414 or info@amsterdog.org. To get the process started, please fill out our online application at www.amsterdog.org/application.
