Meet Bear: A Resilient Three-Legged Sweetheart Ready for His Forever Home
Bear is a sweet and resilient three-legged dog whose spirit and capacity for love far outweigh the hardships he has endured. Despite a very difficult start to life, Bear is a normal, happy dog with a wonderful personality - and he is now settling beautifully into life in a foster home in southern Connecticut while he waits for his forever family.
Bear is approximately 3 to 4 years old and currently weighs about 50 pounds, with an ideal weight closer to 65 pounds. Thanks to great care in his foster home, Bear has already gained 10–15 pounds and continues to make steady progress. As a puppy, he was attacked by another dog and lost his front right leg, but he gets around just fine and doesn’t let anything slow him down.
Bear previously spent about a year in a loving foster home, but tragically, his foster person passed away. The stress and heartbreak of this loss took a toll on him, and Bear developed a rectal prolapse that required three surgeries before the repair remained in place. Through it all, Bear has shown remarkable resilience.
Today, Bear is continuing to improve every day. He is gaining better control over his bathroom habits and his overall health is trending in the right direction. Because of his past surgeries and trauma, his gastrointestinal tract remains sensitive, and he is currently supported with prescription food and medication as he continues to heal.
In his current foster home, Bear is truly blossoming. He is living with new dog friends, happily wearing cozy sweaters, curling up on soft beds, and - adorably - snoring during his naps. He is calm, content, and learning what it means to just be a loved dog.
Bear is incredibly friendly with all people and has a mellow, easy-going personality. He does not whine or bark. He has previously lived with children and a cat and does best with medium or larger dogs. Bear is food-motivated and easily won over with treats. He prefers to play rather than walk, loves chasing balls, and is especially attached to his stuffed animals.
He is well-mannered in his foster home, affectionate, and enjoys snuggling. He is good during bath time and takes everything in stride. Bear is neutered, up to date on vaccines, and usually house trained. While he has been recovering, he has been using training pads - which he does perfectly - but he is also comfortable going outside.
Life has not always been fair to Bear, yet he continues to meet every challenge with resilience, grace, and charm. It is very easy to fall in love with him, and he is more than ready to share his big heart with a forever family who will cherish him as much as he deserves.

AmsterDog Rescue does not have its own facility. Instead, we rely on fosters to care for our beloved animals. Our available animals may change depending on your location and we do transport animals for adoptions within a reasonable distance. Since you will possibly be speaking with and meeting a foster directly, an application must be filled out prior to meet and greets.
