My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Eugene, his friends call him 'Old Man!' You can call him whatever you please because he is mostly deaf (or has selective hearing, typical man!) ;)

Eugene is a ~12-year-old Terrier mix who came into Lebanon Humane as a "stray. This poor guy was in pain from advanced dental disease and needed broken out ASAP.

Due to the severity of his dental disease, all of his teeth were removed. He is currently on softened senior food mixed with wet food and he LOVES food. For treats he enjoys string cheese and rotisserie chicken.

Eugene is easy going & just wants to cuddle next to you on the couch or in bed at night (hopefully his snoring won't bother you). He requires a spot on the couch, his people home often and yummy soft treats.

He is not housebroken and does wear a wrap around the house. However, he knows to go potty outside so if taken out often, he won't have an accident. He is rarely crated because he doesn't settle, and we don't want him to hurt himself. He isn't destructive, he'll just wonder around the house until he finds a soft place to sleep.

Eugene would do well in a home with another chill, older dog, or no other dogs. He is perfectly happy being your one and only! He is fine with cats. He needs a calm home so likely no young kids.

He doesn't require a fenced yard - he is an extremely slow walker and just wants to go outside, do his business and come right back in.

He barely makes a peep and is just a content old man who deserves a family to dote on him during his senior years.

He is neutered, microchipped, UTD on vaccines and had a dental. If you think Eugene would be a good addition to your family apply today!

More about this rescue

Who We Are:
Zoe's House, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) non-profit animal welfare group based out of Sinking Spring,PA. We are comprised solely of volunteers that generously volunteer their time, their homes and their hearts. We are dedicated to rescuing homeless, neglected or abandoned animals from high kill shelters or from owners who can no longer care for them. We provide the animals with loving foster care, veterinary treatment and rehabilitation until we are able to pair them with compatible and loving forever homes. At times we also offer permanent sanctuary to those with special or medical needs and that are considered unadoptable.

Zoe's House serves as a resource to our community and to our adopters by providing education and information on responsible pet ownership, the importance of spay/neuter, behavior training, nutrition, puppy mill awareness, heartworm preventative and breed education. Our organization also networks with other shelters and rescues. We try to assist other organizations when possible.

Zoe’s House is not federally funded, and relies solely on donations to continue to rescue. Although we are not breed specific, the need to save Dobermans, Rottweilers, German Shepherds and Pitbulls is ever growing; therefore, we have focused primarily on saving the lives of our beloved and majestic strong breeds.

What We do:
There are many people involved in the rescue, rehabilitation and re-homing of each dog we take in. Our rescue effort starts with the initial intake request for a dog. Whether this be at a shelter of from an individual in the community, we try to gather as much information as we can. We then pickup or transport the dog to safety in rescue. At this time we administer immediate veterinary care to determine the health of the dog and ensure the animal has proper immunizations. We also have bloodwork done for a heartworm check, lyme, fecal and sometimes a blood panel depending on the age and health of the dog. The dog remains in "in-home" foster care and becomes a part of the fosters family for an undefined period of time. We evaluate the dog and work on basic manners and obedience. At times we have dogs for a longer duration due to health and/or age. The dogs in our care come with us to adoption events, home screenings, and ultimately permanent placement. Zoe's House then provides post-adoption follow-up and support and welcomes the new family to the "Zoe's House Family!" We strive to stay in close contact with all of our adopters to ensure the transition and life long relationship continues to be magical. We remain dedicated to the principal that we never want one of our rescues to end up in a shelter or in a home that does not provide a responsible and loving environment for the life of the animal.

We truly believe that one dog at a time... we are making a difference!
