My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Nyla!

Nyla is a very sweet 6 year old tortoiseshell. Nyla is sporting a Lion Cut due to being unable to clean herself, and we are told she does very well at the groomers. For now she has staff helping her clean herself each day. She has started on a weight loss regime, and we are hopeful that once she loses enough weight she will be able to clean herself again. Nyla loves to lounge around and hang out with her people. If you ask her questions, she is sure to answer! Nyla has previously lived with dogs and cats, however she is looking for a home without small children. Nyla has a hard time with loud noises, and the hustle and bustle that comes along with smaller children. Nyla is strictly an indoor kitty. Nyla is very beautiful, and she knows it too! She has a very gentle and calm demeanour.

The BC SPCA is a non-profit organization dedicated to protecting and enhancing the quality of life for domestic, farm and wild animals in British Columbia. Through its locations and operations across the province the BC SPCA provides emergency medical care and sheltering for more than 37,000 animals each year. The society also conducts more than 4,600 cruelty investigations and provides a wide range of advocacy and education programs for domestic, farm and wild animals through its Provincial Office.

Our mission, vision and charter is at the heart of all we do to rescue, protect and care for animals. It is also the driving force behind our animal welfare and education programs.

Our Charter:

The BC SPCA Charter is the foundation that guides the work we do:

Whereas:

The world is inhabited by many species sharing a common ecosystem of air, earth, and water. We recognize and value our interconnectedness with all animals.

Therefore:

The BC Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals is dedicated to protecting and enhancing the quality of life for the animals of the world we share.

We pledge our energies to inspire and mobilize society to create a world in which all animals, who depend on humans for their well-being, experience, as a minimum, five essential freedoms:

1. Freedom from hunger and thirst

2. Freedom from pain, injury, and disease

3. Freedom from distress

4. Freedom from discomfort

5. Freedom to express behaviours that promote well-being.
