🔺OVER 2,191 in the shelter and now is her time to shine!💜Meet Adele, a “Sato dog” from Puerto Rico! A “Sato dog” refers to the small to medium-sized stray dogs in Puerto Rico. Island dogs are smart, loving, highly trainable, and make devoted companions. There is no love like the love of an island dog.
📝 (5/5/24- two week update) Adele, her two sisters, and others were rescued and brought to the shelter at Luquillo Safe Haven for Animals when hurricane Maria hit. They have remained there for over SIX YEARS. Adele has had brief opportunities out of the shelter to spend time in a home environment and showed wonderful progress. Fast forwarding- Adele is now fostered in Pittsburgh with three dogs and two cats and has come far in learning this new life of being a dog! Within just over two weeks she has: Played with a ball, embraced many tail wags, cuddled on the couch, enjoyed walks and sun bathing, received pets, and is coming around on comfortability. She is a calm, sweet, simple girl, and is learning to trust and accept love. She is starting to shine as time goes on. Adele needs a patient family to allow her that space to decompress and feel safe. She is shy and timid but with praise and consistency she is showing that she just wants to be a part of a family. She loves following her humans around, great with leash/walks, and house trained- with few adjusting accidents. Adele is a quiet girl, no aggression, and has yet to bark. She has been around younger and older kids with no issues. Adele enjoys treats, eager to thrive, and will make a nice, calm companion. You can see it in her eyes how appreciative she is for this opportunity at a new life.
