My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Hi, I’m Harper! I’m a 2-year-old, 23-pound Chihuahua/Labrador Retriever mix who loves being active. Before I was rescued by MBR, I had spent my whole life chained up outside, in southern Ohio, with a beat up "dog house" as my only protection from the elements. Because of this, I am looking for a forever family who will help me learn how to be a family dog! I still have accidents in the house every now and then, so am still working some on my potty training, but I am crate trained and keep it clean.
I just started a 6-week obedience training course to help me become the most perfect gentleman I can be. I get along with other dogs and with cats, but would probably do best in a home with older or no kids, as I scared of loud noises and fast movements. In addition to potty training and just general house manners, my foster family has been working with me on guarding some of the things that I love the most. I didn't have much in my life before, and I'm afraid now someone will take away my most prized possesions and most love people, so I am learning how to share those things with others, and am doing SO GOOD with my training. Now that I have freedom from living on a chain, I have discovered that I love to run and explore, so would thrive in a home with a fenced yard OR someone who will take me for lots of walks so I can discover the world.
Please don't just put me out on a chain again and make that be my only interaction with the outside world! I did have to be treated for Lyme disease and will need to get tested again in 6 months just to make sure the first round of medicine did it's job. Though I am timid at first, I’ll be sure to give you lots of love once I get to know you!
All dogs available for adoption are in foster homes. Please do not visit the location as it is a privately run boarding, training, and grooming facility. Meet and greets are scheduled by appointment only for approved adopters.
