My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Chubby ACCT-A-161601 is currently considered urgent and at risk of euthanasia due to length of stay and lack of space for incoming dogs. Chubby must have confirmed placement with an ADOPTER, FOSTER OR RESCUE PARTNER by Friday May 10th at 10 A.M. Should Chubby's medical or behavioral status change, his urgency and timeline for placement may also change.

Chubby is an approximately 5 year old male mixed breed dog that came into ACCT when our officers picked him up from a good samaritan after he was found running the streets. The person that found Chubby said that he was running free trying to play with other dogs that were being walked by their owners. The finder was able to get Chubby to jump into his car and call our officers to come and get him.

When Chubby was brought to the shelter, a microchip was found stating that his real name was Thor and that he had an owner. Unfortunately, when his owner was contacted, she was unable to reclaim him due to housing issues. Poor Chubby was stuck at the shelter.

Fortunately for Chubby, he made plenty of friends while at the shelter. Both staff and volunteers fell in love with his sweet and easy going personality. This is what Chubby's friends had to say about him:

Per volunteer 5/1:
"Chubby is definitely NOT chubby, but he is sweet, friendly and very handsome! He has the most beautiful markings and amazing greenish yellow eyes . Chubby is very affectionate and loves to sit close and take his treats gently..He is a great walker and loves to meet new friends. Chubby will be a great addition to any family "

Per volunteer on 4/23:
"Chubby is a human-centered boy. He enjoyed pets and is SO soft! He walks well on the leash, occasionally pulling if he saw a human or other doggie. He knows sit and peed a few times outside.

Per staff on 4/20:
"Did a meet with potential adopters and their dog. They liked him, he is super friendly! But he was playing a little too rough with their older boxer and he would not retreat. Just kept wanting to play and jump on each other. Would not walk together because he kept wanting to play. Leashed easily and walks ok just pulls a little. Went back into kennel with no issues. He is a good boy!

Per staff on 4/12:
"The sweetest submissive boy! Very sweet and social but so scared and nervous at first. Warms up quickly but is scared of big, fast movement so adult only home preferred, 12+. Can go to foster if medically cleared, great candidate. "

Per staff on 4/10:
"Very friendly easy on the leash and listens to commands. Likes to play with other dogs. Caller stated that while he was running loose he ran up on a dog and was trying to play with it

ACCT Philly is located at 111 West Hunting Park Ave in Philadelphia. We are open for adoptions 7 days a week. Please visit www.acctphilly.org/adopt for details.

If you are a rescue interested in pulling this animal, please email our lifesaving team, or visit here if you are not currently a rescue partner: https://acctphilly.org/acct-philly-love-local-partnership-program/

Due to being significantly overcapacity with dogs and cats and higher than usual intake, extensions are unlikely to be granted. If you are interested in an animal please contact ACCT Philly immediately. Due to limited space, timestamps may also be proceeded with early so it is imperative to let us know if you are considering adopting or tagging a dog or cat.

Confirmed placement is considered confirmation of an actual rescue pull. Possible placement, interested parties, and other "TBD" statuses are not considered confirmed and do not indicate an animal is no longer urgent

All animals at ACCT Philly are from Philadelphia, as the only open intake animal shelter in Philadelphia, we are not able to accept animals from outside of Philadelphia. ACCT Philly's Pennsylvania kennel license number is 08313

The Animal Care & Control Team of Philadelphia (ACCT Philly) is the region’s largest animal care and control service provider. ACCT Philly is an independent, 501c3 nonprofit organization, contracted by the City of Philadelphia to provide animal control services. Our animal control officers provide service over 142.6 square miles to the city’s more than 1.5 million residents and ACCT Philly’s facility in North Philadelphia handles more than 17,000 of the city’s animals, from dogs and cats, to small animals, reptiles, birds and wildlife, annually.

In addition to animal control and sheltering, ACCT Philly is open 365 days a year for pet adoptions. ACCT Philly also supports a foster care program where community members provide temporary homes for sheltered animals and one of the (if not THE) most extensive rescue partnership program in the country where approved rescue partners accept ACCT Philly animals into their adoption programs. Under contract ACCT Philly’s Animal Control Officers provide animal control services and code enforcement.
