Hooper is being fostered in Palatine IL
Meet this handsome boy! He is 75% Australian Shepherd and 25% Labrador. He has a stunning red bi coat that looks way more Aussie than Lab. Hooper is a total lover! He loves everyone he meets! His date of birth is August 7, 2020. Hooper is the perfect fit for your starting line-up. Hooper weighs in at 67 pounds, is 3.5 years old and has some impressive hops and dancing skills.
Hooper can be a little shy and hesitant at first, but once he gets comfortable and knows someone has yummy treats, he wants all the love you and anyone have to offer him. He will get that little wiggle butt and not stop till he is ready for a nap (and even then it will keep shaking sometimes). He does great with visitors, always welcoming them with excitement. When it comes to children, he loves them SO much! He will run around with them in the yard till everyone is ready for a nap and cuddle time. Since he is on the more active side, children that are not toddlers would be best, especially with his size, as well as a nice fenced yard. As his name implies, he loves to play ball and fetch!!! Keep away (as in he wants you to chase him around the yard), catch, and fetch are his favorites. If you like going for long walks or hikes, Hooper will be your walking or hiking buddy.
If you need a Thunder Buddy, Hooper is your dog. Rain, lets go outside and play. Thunderstorm, lets go outside and play. Tornado, lets go outside and play. He has nerves of steel when it comes to weather and loud noises with the exception of the vacuum . . . who has ever met a dog that gets along with a vacuum? His only other fear/hesitation other than vacuums is around basements. He will go into dead weight mode if you want him to go into a basement, but is fine with stairs (as long as they stay above ground).
He has had zero accidents with his foster home so is well potty trained. He is also kennel trained to where you ask him to ‘kennel up’ and he goes straight into his kennel. He understands so many commands such as sit, down, off, outside, and paw . . . he likes shaking hands so much he could be a politician but rather than your vote, he would like more pets and scratches. Hooper truly is a smart and amazing pup. Did we mention he loves car rides? He is a very good passenger and gets excited when he knows it is time for a drive.
The perfect home for Hooper has humans that are home more than away, so perfect for stay-at-home parents or work-from-home adults but a household with several people is where he thrives as he likes attention. A home with a fenced yard is a biggie for him as well. He hasn’t been in a home with other dogs, but would recommend no smaller animals like cats, hamsters, etc as he seems to want to catch rabbits and squirrels. Children beyond the toddler age are great with him, but he is very strong, so an adult should always walk him and he loves long walks. This all around good boy is still mostly Aussie and needs good leadership like every other Aussie. He is so eager to please and loves everyone!
Hooper is neutered, up to date on vaccinations, negative for heartworm, microchipped and on monthly prevention for fleas, ticks and heartworm.
