My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Duncan is a very sweet and playful young boy who everyone loves when they meet him. His personality is like a big goofy puppy. For his breed he has a lower drive, not the typical neurotic heeler behavior though he loves his tug toys. I believe he is part blue heeler part Shepard but he is pending a dna test. He has been good with my old cat on a leash, he smells and licks her then moves on. I have not let him off leash with her since he’s so playful and she doesn’t move fast, but he’s been very kind to her when he does see her and has seen the cats at the barn through the fence with no reaction so I believe he is fine with any cat(he would probably want to play with a younger cat). Duncan would do best in a home with a playful dog as his favorite thing ever is playing with other dogs! It’s the best activity for him to get his energy out, he’s done great in playgroups. He has not shown aggression to any dog he’s played with and he takes corrections well. He is crate trained and does well in his crate. Duncan knows sit, paw, and down. He is very agile and I believe with direction and more focus he could do agility. Duncan can be mouthy which is normal behavior for his breed(s) but it has gotten a lot better with decompressing from the shelter environment and redirection but due to this behavior I would say no young children. We are working on his manners ( jumping, pulling on leash, etc) and currently working with a trainer who said Duncan is a very sweet boy who just needs consistency. He has a lot of love to give and looking for a home that can give him lots of play time and love!

Duncan is currently being fostered in Sunrise, Florida, and is looking for his always and forever home.

Their adoption process

Additional adoption info

We require potential adopters to fill out an Adoption Application. When that is approved we can arrange for the prospective adopter to meet the dog they are interested in. We do require an adoption contract to be signed at time of adoption. We have a virtual home-check process (don't forget to submit photos of the exterior of your home!) Adoption fees range depending on the age of the dog. We do have dogs located at qualified fosters throughout the state and also out of state.

Go meet their pets

Since all rescue dogs live in foster homes, there is no single facility to meet pups.

You will need to contact Ewenity Farms HDH to make arrangements to meet the rescue dog after you have an approved app on file. Apps can be filled out at ewenityfarm.org

More about this rescue

We are a small, foster-based rescue organization located in Southwest Florida. Being small helps us give more one-on-one attention to individual dogs and their needs. Rescued dogs are kept in our homes and treated as our own. Herding dogs are unique. They are highly intelligent and require much of the owner’s attention. The dogs are evaluated, when they come into the rescue, for any temperament and health issues. Then they are given basic obedience, socialization and rehabilitation as it is necessary.

It is our sole purpose to find forever homes for these loving, wonderful dogs that have been discarded through no fault of their own. All adopted dogs are spayed/neutered, up to date on shots, heartworm negative, micro-chipped, and on flea and heartworm preventative.
