My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Apply to Adopt Me!

NOTE: Foster or Adopter or Foster-to-adopt needed for Lilou, and a generous sponsor has stepped up to sponsor Lilou's $250 adoption fee. (She would do well in a first floor one-level carpeted condo or apartment with a small grassy courtyard and neighborhood sidewalks.)

Looking for a medium-sized, mostly chill companion to share your days with? Meet Lilou—a sweet, friendly, and happy girl searching for her forever home in Florida.

Lilou is about 7 years old, weighs around 40 lbs, and has wonderful house manners. She’s house-trained and loves being close to her people. Her favorite activities include relaxing on one of her many cozy beds (near you or alongside doggie friends), short sunbathing sessions, and strolling through the neighborhood to take in all the wonderful smells. She happily shows her joy with plenty of tail wags, coming for a special treat, and occasionally plays with toys. She spends many of the daytime hours settled in for peaceful naps nearby. At night, she sleeps on one of her beds next to her foster’s bed. She does great riding in the car too (usually on a blanket on the floor of her foster's minivan). She has done well around cats too.

Lilou has a stable condition that affects her balance and coordination, but she has adapted beautifully and doesn’t let it dampen her enthusiasm for life. She uses a harness instead of a collar, which allows her human to assist her when needed—especially on neighborhood walks, potty outings, and sometimes getting from one room to another.  She can navigate some on her own in a backyard especially when she is calm and goes slow and steady. Indoors, she does best on carpets or rubber mats (which will come with her adoption and can be placed over tile or other slippery floors). She prefers to eat lying down but who doesn't like breakfast in bed!

Because she can bump or fall into people, dogs, or objects, Lilou needs a home without young children, as she could accidentally knock them over. She will do best with other medium-energy or calm dogs as she will try and join in any exuberant play and really shouldn't run unassisted. But she loves to hang out with her furry friends. An all-adult home or one with respectful teens who understand her mobility needs would be ideal. She will truly thrive in a home where someone is around much of the time to enjoy her loving companionship, though she does just fine staying home with other dogs while you run errands or work a half day.

Lilou’s story began on the streets of the Bahamas, where she was rescued by her hero Chella, well known to many on social media. Now, this gentle, affectionate girl is simply looking for a forever family willing to give her a little extra help—and a lot of love.

If you live in Florida and think your home could be the perfect match for Lilou, please complete an application and tell us more about your family. She can’t wait to meet you!

You can see more photos and videos of sweet Lilou on her foster mom’s IG @puppyfostering.
