My personality

My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

CAPE MAY, NJ: River has a tail that won't stop wagging!

River is a regal 7 years old, weighing in at 53 lbs. Recently, poor River had his world flipped upside down when the family he knew his whole life left him at the shelter. Before they left, however, they shared the very long list of River's positive qualities: friendly, social, affectionate, and playful dog who always wants to be with his people! During his intake, he was not just tolerate, but a "total sweetheart", as their toddler played with River's head and hugged him.

River is described as a loving couch potato, frequently rolling around on the floor to request belly rubs. River LOVES his tummy tickles, going for car rides, and even bath time! In fact, River loves all water, so it is no problem to keep his handsome self sparkling clean. Since he loves all treats (bones are his favorite), that means he is easily motivated and trained to your routine. River lived with 5 adults, a toddler, and a teenager, so a busy house is fine by him - the bigger the audience for his adorable antics! River is social and friendly when meeting both other dogs and strangers out on walks. River is housetrained and knows some commands ("sit", "stay", and "jump"), River should not be crated, but he is not destructive when left alone. And this boy loves to give kisses!

Good-looking, out-going, and determined to make his humans smile, River will make a wonderful companion. He really is a great dog, just a little down on his luck. We included all the pawsitive qualities his family had to say about him, because it is actually quite rare that surrendering owners stick around to make sure the shelter knows what a good boy they had. Over the years, River has proven his good temperament, loving nature, and silly fun side. Since leaving the shelter, River has thrived in his foster home but really deserves his furever family. Could that be with you?

Go meet their pets

AmsterDog Rescue does not have its own facility. Instead, we rely on fosters to care for our beloved animals. Our available animals may change depending on your location and we do transport animals for adoptions within a reasonable distance. Since you will possibly be speaking with and meeting a foster directly, an application must be filled out prior to meet and greets.

For adoption inquiries, please contact AmsterDog Rescue at 917-689-8414 or info@amsterdog.org. To get the process started, please fill out our online application at www.amsterdog.org/application.
