My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Muppet Bio

Muppet is a little one-eyed guy with a big personality. He’s 11.5 years old, 12 lb, with a beautiful dapple coat. He came to Little Paws when his family became unable to meet his needs. He’s looking for a calm new home where his people will be around (or with whom he can go on adventures) most of the time. There’s nothing like his happy dance and seeing him get excited is like seeing a puppy with zoomies!

Environment

Muppet is house and crate trained. He loves to sleep in his crate and doesn’t get up in the night, but we’ve seen some marking behavior he’s working on that. He loves to explore in the yard and he tried to chase the chickens in his foster home. Ideally his new home will have a fenced yard and no shared walls. Muppet walks well on the leash but is working through some reactivity, he’s quite fearful of big dogs and acts dominant toward little ones. Because of his vision impairment he can be easily startled and we wouldn’t trust him not to bolt. For the same reason he can be chatty.

Pets & People

Muppet will be aloof at first, but warms up quickly and will be in love with you before you know it. He wants to be near his people, but he’s more of a shadow than a lap dog. Around new people he will act tough and greet them vocally, but not aggressively. He’s untested around children and we’ve noticed that he doesn’t like fast or erratic movements so a home with children would not be a good fit.

Muppet would be best in a home without other dogs or with very calm smaller dogs. He doesn’t like being jostled—especially around his head/face and gets a little grumpy with the seniors in his foster home. If you’re looking for a devoted little adventure pawdner—this could be your guy.

Health

Muppet has special food for sensitive tummies, and two eye drops in his remaining eye for glaucoma. His left eye is gone, and he doesn’t have the best vision but he does just fine getting around and living life. He will need quarterly checks on his eye.

Location

Muppet is available for adoption from Kenly, NC and adores riding in the car. Approved potential adopters must be willing to drive to Kenly, NC to meet Muppet prior to adoption. Please email horselovertrish@yahoo.com with any questions or complete an adoption application at the button above. The adoption fee for Muppet is $250.

Their adoption process

Additional adoption info

6 Step Adoption Process

1) Application - (While we encourage you to let us know on your application if one of our dogs has captured your interest, we use this simply as a guide for matching and your listing of specific dog in no way implies claim to this particular dog)

NOTE: Adoption Applications expire 6 months from the date of receipt. If you have already submitted an Adoption Application and it has been longer than 6 months, you will need to fill out a new Adoption Application.

2) Reference Checks - All references will be checked prior to home visit. We will contact your current vet, if you have one, for a reference.

3) Application Review - Processor reviews the application, calls the vet if you have one, verifies vaccinations and spay/neuter. We email personal references (if email is provided) or call them if necessary. Email is best since as references can respond when they are available.

4) Home Visit - A volunteer will come to your home to visit with you and discuss care of dachshunds. Also, the volunteer will look for any potential problems and check to be sure that your fencing is secure. Your home visit does not mean you have been approved.

5) Approval - After the above steps have been completed all your information will be reviewed and a decision will be made about adoption. If at this point you are approved to adopt, LPDR will help guide you to the appropriate dog for your family.

6) Contract - For the protection of the dogs we place, everyone that adopts a dachshund from LPDR will be required to sign an adoption contract.

Go meet their pets

Are you looking for an opportunity to foster a dachshund? Fostering is our transitional step from a shelter/surrender to a forever home. During this time it’s important that we give each dachshund a safe environment where it can learn to trust again, to heal and to learn how to become a loving family member. Many of the dachshunds that we pull from shelters or receive from an owner surrender just need a temporary home until their new forever home can be found. Please go to our website (www.LittlePawsDR.org) to learn more.

More about this rescue

Little Paws Dachshund Rescue is a foster-based, non-profit animal rescue that specializes in finding permanent homes for dachshunds, dachshund mixes, and other small dogs. It is LPDR’s goal to identify abandoned, mistreated, or homeless dogs and oversee their treatment and well being while working to find loving owners for those in our care. We strive to make the lives of all dogs better through action, advocacy, awareness and education.
