Their adoption process

We carefully review applications and do our best to make sure every pet finds their perfect match and lands in their forever home.

Adoption steps

  1. Submit Application
    Please fill out an application!
    DOGS: https://www.animaljusticeleague.org/adopt/dogs
    CATS: https://www.animaljusticeleague.org/adopt/cats
  2. Approve Application
We will check your vet references (please provide them!) and your verify you landlord reference or homeowner status.
  3. Meet the Pet
If your app is approved, you can meet the pet either at your home (dogs) in conjunction with a home check or at the foster's home (cat).
  4. Take the Pet Home
If all goes well with your meet and greet, you can then take the pet home for a seven day sleepover!
  5. Sign Adoption Contract
During the sleepover, let us know when you're ready to make it official, and we will tell you how to pay and send you the adoption contract!

More about this rescue

Animal Justice League (AJL) is a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt dog and cat rescue organization founded in the Oak Forest and Garden Oaks neighborhoods in 2015. Since then, we have expanded our reach throughout Greater Houston.

In a city overwhelmed with homeless pets and over-capacity shelters, we saw a need and answered the call. As a 100% volunteer-run, foster-based, donor-funded rescue, we continue to make a difference for pets and the people who love them.

We take in stray, owner-surrender, and shelter animals, give them veterinary and foster care, and find their forever homes. We also help pet owners keep their pets healthy and at home through free vaccine/microchip clinics, diminishing the need for surrender. In addition, we work to minimize the community cat and kitten population through a robust TNR (trap/neuter/return) program.

Our mission is to reduce the homeless pet population through rescue, education, and outreach. Help us make our mission a reality!
