My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Mayo, the charming feline, embodies the epitome of feline elegance and companionship. With his luscious fur and captivating green eyes, Mayo is not just a cat; he's a work of art. His affectionate nature is unparalleled as he delights in trailing behind his humans, always eager to be in their company. You'll often find him perched by the window, mesmerized by the flurry of birds outside, a silent observer of the world beyond. However, Mayo's exuberance can sometimes get the better of him, so he would thrive best in a home with older children who understand his need for space and respect his boundaries. Despite this, Mayo's heart brims with joy when engaged in playful antics, particularly when chasing after his favorite toys or engaging in spirited games of cat-and-mouse around the house.

Mayo's interactions with visiting children have revealed his nuanced personality. While he may be hesitant to engage in physical affection with younger ones, preferring not to be picked up or petted, he finds immense joy in their company when they join him in play. His enthusiasm knows no bounds when it comes to frolicking around with his feathered prey or pouncing on elusive toy mice. With Mayo, it's not just about the cuddles; it's about the shared moments of joy and laughter that make life with this magnificent cat truly special.

More about this shelter

The Maryland SPCA connects wonderful pets to loving owners. We are not affiliated with any national animal organization, and we do not receive any government or United Way funding. Our mission is to prevent cruelty and neglect of animals through fostering the humane relationship between animals and people. We operate primarily in the Greater Baltimore Metropolitan area.

To make sure that our dogs and cats do not contribute to the pet overpopulation problem, every one is spayed or neutered before going into a new home. The cost is included in the adoption fee, as are the costs of shots and other necessary care. In addition, a free Positive Pooch class is available to our dog adopters.

There is no set time limit for how long an animal can remain in our adoption program. As long as an animal maintains general good health and a sound temperament, we keep him or her until adopted. We pride ourselves on providing premium care to the animals in a clean, pleasant environment. Our adoption staff works diligently to pair up adopters with the best animal match for their homes and lifestyles.

We transport animals from other shelters to our adoption center to help more animals get adopted. We also help pet owners find new homes for their pets so their animals don’t need to enter shelter care.
