My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

This beautiful girl, sweetly named Periwinkle by the shelter, was rescued on April 12, 2024. She's been decompressing in boarding since then, having a great time romping with the other rescued shelter dogs staying there while we get to know them a bit so we can figure out their next placements. So far what we know about this young girl is that she's friendly, perky, and loads of fun. She's very affectionate and all signs indicate that she's going to be a devoted, loyal companion who's quick to bond hard with her new person. We're so excited to see who shows up to adopt this great dog -- she deserves the best life, and we're here to help her find it!

Periwinkle is in Houston, and is available for adoption almost anywhere in the US or Canada. Please ask about transport options! She would love a foster home in the meantime, in Texas or Ontario. To foster or adopt Peri, you can find an application on our Facebook page or on our website, lastminutedogrescue.com.

Their adoption process

1.

Submit Application

People can submit an adoption application

2.

Interview

First we do reference checks, THEN we do a full 1 to 1.5 hr interview with the applicant

3.

Home Check

Home checks used to be done in person but lately we do a zoom walk through of the home, checking especially the backyard and crate set up

4.

Meet the Pet

If the dog is here in Canada they can do a meet and greet to finalize that they are in fact who they say they are and a good match

5.

Approve Application

we would send an email approving the adopter (or declining if they aren't approved)

6.

Sign Adoption Contract

We would send the adoption contract which they would fill out and send back.

7.

Pay Fee

They would transfer the adoption fee to cover transport costs and vetting of the dog. Then they would come pick up the dog from the foster.

Additional adoption info

No other additional information. Some of our dogs are adopted as soon as they come up on a "foster-to-adopt" trial period to ensure the perfect match.

More about this rescue

We rescue dogs off of death row from the Texas kill shelters and help rehome stray dogs from dumping grounds that have clearly been neglected or abused.
