My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Huckleberry, a 7-year-old Bassett Hound weighing 48 pounds, embodies an easy-going nature, finding joy in simply taking in the world around him. With a penchant for sniffing and exploring, Huckleberry spends much of his time leisurely enjoying the array of scents that surround him, showcasing his relaxed and laid-back demeanor.
Lounging is another favorite pastime for Huckleberry, as he savors moments of relaxation and contentment, adding a peaceful and tranquil presence to any home.
Showing potential to live harmoniously with another dog and children as young as 10, Huckleberry's amiable nature and gentle disposition make him an ideal companion for families seeking a loyal and affectionate pet. As for cats he will need a slow intro to be able to coexist, Huckleberry also wouldn't mind living without cat companions.

Overall, Huckleberry's love for sniffing, lounging, and his compatibility with other dogs and older children highlight his suitability as a cherished member of the household, who will bring happiness and companionship to those fortunate enough to share their lives with him.

Their adoption process

Additional adoption info

All of our adoptable animals are up-to-date on all age appropriate vaccinations, spayed or neutered, de-wormed, de-flea and microchipped before adoptions are finalized. All dogs over six months of age receive a temperament assessment by our Certified Professional Dog Trainer to ensure appropriate placement. Also, many animals in our care receive basic obedience training to improve manners and increase adoptability.

We are currently doing adoptions by appointment only. Please contact us by phone at (234) 212-9843 or email at adoptions@summithumane.org, and an adoption counselor will return your message. They will review our adoption process, answer any questions, and tell you more about the animals currently available for adoption at our shelter and in our foster program. If we have a match for you and your family, an appointment will be scheduled to meet the animal.

Additional questions can be directed to our adoption team at (234) 212-9843.

More about this shelter

Since 1968, the Humane Society of Summit County (HSSC) has been the trusted caretaker and advocate for Summit County’s victims of animal abuse, neglect, and abandonment and stray animals suffering from illness and injury. We employ two full-time Humane Officers who respond to emergency calls, investigate animal cruelty, and, as warranted, prosecute offenders.
