My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Thank you for your interest in dog who needs a new home.  Adoption can be one of the most fulfilling experiences in your life and especially in the life of your new canine companion.

A note to those looking at CPR.  We have no perfect dogs - but many of our dogs have proven to be perfect for a certain someone.  Our job is to find those someone's.  Our most successful adopters come to CPR not because they want a dog.  They come to us because they want to give a dog a home.  We urge all of our potential adopters not to fall in love with a picture.  While we like to know what you like in looks, a dog is more than a pretty face.  Our goal is to match you with the best possible pet for you and your home.  We want to create furever families.

Our descriptions contain all that we know about this dog today.  We'll update as more information is known.

Are you looking to adopt within the next 30 days?  If so please visit our webpage at www.carolinapoodlerescue.org and complete the application.  You'll find it in the menu on the left hand side.  You'll also find a total listing of all our dogs available.

Just browsing but interested in poodles and poodle mixes?  Please drop a note to applications@carolinapoodlerescue.org with your name, address and phone # and email.  We'll add you to our mailing list.

thanks

NOT IN VP

Date into Rescue: 3/6/2024
Reason for being in rescue: owner release
Foster location: Dreamweaver Farms, Pacolet SC
Special Needs? Derek is neutered, up to date on vaccines and heartworm negative.
Weight: 47 lbs and growing - We expect Derek will be 50-55 lbs when full grown
Height: 24 in
Spayed/Neutered: Yes

Adoption Fee: $599

Fence needed? Yes, Derek requires a physically fenced yard with fencing 4 feet or taller.

What kind of home would be best for me? Derek is a beautiful but under socialized 10-month-old pup who's currently cautious of everything. He is nervous and wary of everything but slowly gaining confidence. Derek is learning and gaining confidence from the other dogs here. He will need to go to an adopter who already has a confident dog that Derek can take his cues from, as woo as learn how to be a dog and a wonderful pet. We will not place Derek in home with senior dogs. The companion dog MUST be eight (8) years old or younger. A home with an experienced dog owner and someone who is home more than they're away would be ideal for Derek. He will need multiple potty breaks throughout the day and night. Derek is a baby and needs play breaks and frequent potty times to aid in potty training. He would also do well with a couple or single adopter if they are home most of the time. Derek is going to be a project, but he is young and eager and we know in the right home will blossom into a confident young man.

What is my personality like? Derek is cautious, maybe shy would be a better word. However, he is learning to be more confident from being around the other dogs here. He is energetic and playful with them, but he's laid back when inside. We have seen him play with toys if another dog brings them to him but otherwise he doesn't seem interested in them. We do not know how he acts with cats.

His former owner says it best about Derek, stating he is "sweet, not aggressive, but he lacks education." Derek walks on a leash but will need leash training. He is a puppy and does not know his basic commands. He will need to be taught sit, stay, down come, and the like

His adopters need to understand Derek needs to take his time, get comfortable with them and his new surroundings, and he'll develop into a wonderful dog. Derek longs to find a loving forever home with adopters that will be train him and be patient with him as he grows into being a loving member of your family. He hopes they come for him soon.

How do I act when I first meet new people? Derek is curious and friendly yet still cautious of people. He is learning to be comfortable around people. In the short time he's been with us he has gone from running from people to approaching for sniffs, and he has begun to let his caregiver pet him. Derek's caregiver believes in time he will develop into a dog that will want to be with his human constantly.

Other tips and tidbits: Derek's birthday is 7/15/2023

House trained? Dogs can be house trained if they are in the right environment and are allowed to follow a schedule if a physical reason doesn't keep them from being trained.  A dog house trained in my home may not be in yours. We will help you teach your new dog this necessary skill and based on your schedule.

Please note - we do not ship dogs.  If you are interested in adopting, please take a look at the distance between the foster home location and your location and make sure you are willing to make that trip.  Most of our dogs are at our farm in Pacolet, South Carolina.

To apply, please visit our webpage at www.carolinapoodlerescue.org and visit the tab on the left that directions you to the online application.

Please note that when screening applications, we look at the entire home and then make suggestions based on what would be a good fit for your home.   You are not being screened for a specific dog although we are looking to see what type of dog interests you - poodles or non poodles, color, age, etc.  Others here may be a better fit for you.  It is very difficult to get to know a living animal from a picture and a short description.  Since we are constantly getting in new dogs, this may be a  dog not in our listings yet.  We want you to be very happy with your new companion and will make suggestions based on what you tell us about you.

Thank you for considering CPR.
