A note to those looking at CPR. We have no perfect dogs - but many of our dogs have proven to be perfect for a certain someone. Our job is to find those someone's. Our most successful adopters come to CPR not because they want a dog. They come to us because they want to give a dog a home. We urge all of our potential adopters not to fall in love with a picture. While we like to know what you like in looks, a dog is more than a pretty face. Our goal is to match you with the best possible pet for you and your home. We want to create furever families.

Special Needs? Hummer is neutered, up to date on vaccines and heartworm negative. Hummer was born on a farm in OH. He has never lived in a home and would like to learn how to be a pet. Carolina Poodle Rescue is pleased to work with breeders who are eager to have their dogs find a home. When our site mentions breeder release, we want adopters and supporters to know that this dog will require extra care transitioning into your home. Please know this is a rehabilitation process for the dog. It is a commitment to showing the dog how to be social, building trust, house training, and separation anxiety. Many people use these phrases to describe the rehabilitation process as watching a dog ‘blooming’ or ‘coming out of their shell’. It is a highly rewarding process for you and the dog. We are here to help you support your commitment to your dog.

What kind of home would be best for me? Hummer is a two-year-old breeder release that has not been socialized. Everything is a new experience for him, even walking up a set of stairs. He would do best with an adopter who is a kind, caring, individual with an abundance of patience for him. He needs a home where someone is home with him most of the time, if not all the time. Hummer requires a home that has another dog so he can take his cues from your dog. However, we consider Hummer an alpha dog, so he'd partner better with a more submissive dog. He gets along better with female dogs than he does male dogs. Hummer has been tested with cats and small dogs and was curious about both, but showed no issues toward them in a meet and greet environment. He has never lived with children.
What is my personality like? Hummer's personality with people is still under development. One day he will be more standoffish and another day he will be fine with people approaching and giving him pets and treats. A treat will always get his attention. This is a good sign of his development as many breeder dog releases are far more wary of people. This shows he is well on his way to developing into a great dog that can be someone's life-long companion. Hummer is great with other dogs, and he does best with female dogs.
Hummer walks on a leash but still needs to be trained in this. He does not know basic commands such as sit, come, stay, etc. Hummer's adopter needs patience, and a lot of treats, in teaching him how to become a great dog and a wonderful part of your family. Please remember your home will be Hummer's first home A consistent routine each day will see him blossom into the wonderful boy we know he can be.
How do I act when I first meet new people? As noted above, it all depends upon the mood Hummer is in that day. He can be aloof when it comes to people, and he can also be welcoming and approach for pets. Treats all always get you in good with Hummer, he's very food motivated. Hummer has an amazing amount of potential bottled up inside him, he just needs the right person to unleash it. Once you do, you will be able to relish the love you will receive in return from Hummer. As The Beatles sang, "And in the end, the love you take is equal to the love you make." Hummer has a whole lotta love to give.
Other tips and tidbits: Our vet estimates Hummer was born on or around 1/5/2022.
House trained? Dogs can be house trained if they are in the right environment and are allowed to follow a schedule if a physical reason doesn't keep them from being trained. A dog house trained in my home may not be in yours. We will help you teach your new dog this necessary skill and based on your schedule.
Please note - we do not ship dogs. If you are interested in adopting, please take a look at the distance between the foster home location and your location and make sure you are willing to make that trip. Most of our dogs are at our farm in Pacolet, South Carolina.

Please note that when screening applications, we look at the entire home and then make suggestions based on what would be a good fit for your home. You are not being screened for a specific dog although we are looking to see what type of dog interests you - poodles or non poodles, color, age, etc. Others here may be a better fit for you. It is very difficult to get to know a living animal from a picture and a short description. Since we are constantly getting in new dogs, this may be a dog not in our listings yet. We want you to be very happy with your new companion and will make suggestions based on what you tell us about you.
