My personality

My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Hi, I’m Duke! I’m one smart dude, because I went straight to the top to get rescued - that’s right, the Executive Director of the fabulous organization trapped me! I had a leg injury, and after a vet visit I went to the Catty Shack to recover. Man, did I get the VIP treatment there! These humans are so wonderful that I decided to become a lovable boy and leave behind the street life for good!

I’ve learned from the other foster kitties how to play and be a cat, and the humans say it’s adorable! I especially like wand toys and tunnels. I gotta tell you, that tunnel - it’s the best invention ever! In my down time, I like to snooze in the cat tree.

I also get a gold star for being the bestest helper! I help the humans clean and feed in the shed daily. It’s an important job, and I take it very seriously - I’m in the middle of everything! All of the volunteers are going to miss me dearly, but it’s time for me to find my forever family! I’m so easygoing and I get along with everyone, so I’ll be a purrfect addition to any loving home.

Oh yeah, one other thing they told me to mention…I’m also FIV+, but please don’t let that deter you! I can still live a long, full, healthy life, and with proper introductions, I can live safely with non-FIV kitties. It also means it’s even more important for me to be a strictly INDOOR kitty from now on! Find out more here: https://fivcats.com/

If you’re interested in adopting me but scared about the FIV, my people would be happy to talk with you and answer any questions you might have!

Their adoption process

Additional adoption info

We have an adoption application to learn a bit about the home our cats will be going to and the family's motivation for adoption and expectations about pet ownership. We also have an adoption contract, which includes a no declawing and indoor-only clause along with a vet promissory note that ensures you will continue with the medical care and spay/neuter if needed.

We DO NOT do any out of state adoptions except on the NC border on a case-by-case basis.

We require a donation of $120 for adoption of unaltered kittens with a PTV Contract. All kittens receive vaccine series and wormings as well as medical treatment as needed. The adopter is responsible for obtaining their rabies vaccine and spay/neuter if the kitten is not of age at the time of adoption. We can provide resources for low cost clinics that offer these services.

We ask a donation of $25 to adopt Career/barn cats.

We require a donation of at least $140 for adoption of Spayed/neutered cat.

Bonded pairs adoption donation is $200.

Sometimes we require rental checks or home inspections. We always have a Meet n Greet to make sure everyone gets along. We encourage bringing the whole family!

Go meet their pets

Our pets are available for Meet and Greets at their various fosters homes or at our kittery at Pups n Stuff in Virginia Beach for fosters who do not show animals in their home. Appointments must be scheduled in advance!

At Pups n Stuff (where we're the Stuff), you can make an appointment to come see some of our adoptable kittens. It is at 4330 Holland Rd. in Virginia Beach.

Many of our adoptable adults are located at the Catnip Cat Cafe. The Cafe is in the Ghent section of Norfolk at 1611-B Colley Ave.

We also have adoptable adults at Pembroke PetSmart, 4421 Virginia Beach Blvd in Virginia Beach.

More about this rescue

Our mission is to improve the lives of displaced cats and reduce feral cat population in Hampton Roads by socializing outdoor-born and feral kittens for adoption into loving forever homes. We are a VDACS registered 501c3 nonprofit, founded in 2014 with over 60 foster homes.

Our heart is in TNR (Trap, Neuter, Return of ferals), where cats are fixed, vaccinated, ear tipped, and allowed to live out their lives without reproducing. We are advocates for advancing legal and social acceptance of TNR in Hampton Roads. Our unique feral kitten socialization program has a 90% success rate in socializing feral-born kittens to become loving, in-home pets.

We are always seeking fosters, volunteers, transporters, and trappers to join our team!
