Dog Name: Pepper Anne
Breed: Mixed
Sex: Female
Age: 3-4 years old
Weight: 67 lbs
Medical Needs: Will be starting on Trazadone and calming chews to help with separation anxiety.
Housebroken: Does great, has had no accidents and will go to the door and give a whine to let you know she’s gotta do business
Crate trained: Yes, in that she does not have accidents. That being said, she HATES the crate and has made it her mission to escape it when her foster mama puts her in to go to work. She’s come home several times to Pepper Anne out of the crate, and it a bent mess. Trazadone and calming treats are being started this week to hopefully help her with this.
Good in the car: No issues in the car, she’s super laid back and easy going
Good on a leash: Recommend a prong collar, as this girl loves exploring when she’s outside. She's easy to handle, but the prong helps when she starts to pull during walks.
Energy level: Low; Pepper LOVES napping, she’s very low-key throughout the day. Her energy spurts when you bring out the leash because she knows she’s going out for a walk, but once back inside, she’s back to her mellow self
Need a fenced in yard: Yes.
In a previous home, the adopter used a tie out for her, and she broke it when she went after another dog that came onto their property.
Due to this, her having a secure, fenced in yard is important.
Dog Friendly: Prior to coming to GRR, Pepper lived on a sanctuary type property where she was loose all the time with lots of other dogs, all shapes and sizes.
She had no issues there.
When she came to us last summer, she was fostered with quite a few other dogs, and with a proper shut down and intro, she was great with all of them.
In January, Pepper Anne was adopted. There were no issues with the other dog in her adoptive home.
Last month, while on a tie out in her yard, a random dog ran onto the property.
Pepper Anne broke off the tie out and attacked the other dog.
We aren’t sure if she was guarding her yard/people, or if the other dog started it… but Pepper Anne wasn’t having that dog there either way.
The adopter was not comfortable keeping after that, so she’s back with us.
If yes, does your foster need another dog in its adoptive homes? No, not at all.
If there is another dog in the home, we are recommending:
A two week shut down initially, and a slow, controlled intro.
Medium sized, at least.
Low key, not super assertive.
Older; she’s not bout that in your face, puppy energy.
Cat Friendly? Yes and no; previous foster had a cat who she had no issues with, but Pepper wanted to play whenever he saw her, which some cats tend to not enjoy.
Kid Friendly: Pepper has two kids in her foster home, ages 7 & 12, she has gotten along great with them. Haven’t seen her around someone younger than 7, but no issues with the ones in her current foster home
Special traits that make your foster special or that we would need to know?
Pepper is one of the most laid back dogs I have fostered; every day to her is a lazy Sunday. She has some separation anxiety when being in the crate, but with a fenced off space (if needed), she has shown no issues whatsoever. She is very curious on walks and has to stop and smell all the roses on her walk
