My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Angus, aka Gus, a handsome Hound / Rhodesian Ridgeback mix with soulful eyes and an even sweeter personality. At 9-years-young and a lovable 90 pounds, this big boy is truly a gentle giant and, at heart, a total baby. Gus was found roaming the streets of Fort Lauderdale until one of our dedicated volunteers rescued him and brought him to Abandoned Pet Rescue. Since arriving at the shelter, he has been busy collecting stuffed animals and melting hearts with his calm, loving nature.

Gus is crate and potty-trained and does well on leash with proper guidance. He has a soft, endearing side that shines through when he’s relaxing, often nursing on his favorite stuffed toy or curling up on his bed. His quiet affection and loyal presence make him a wonderful companion. This gentle giant would thrive in a home with a fenced yard and a confident, loving pack leader who can provide structure and reassurance. Gus has done well meeting other dogs when introductions are slow and thoughtful. If you’d like to follow his journey and see more of his charming personality, you can find him on Instagram at @angus_apr. To meet Angus, please fill out an adoption application at Abandonedpetrescue.org. Angus is ready to bring his big smile and his toys to your home!

Angus is vaccinated, neutered, microchipped and ready for adoption at Abandoned Pet Rescue - a no-kill shelter in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. To meet this adoptable pet, please fill out an adoption application at www.abandonedpetrescue.org and a team member will contact you to schedule an appointment.

More about this shelter

Abandoned Pet Rescue (APR) is one of the largest no-kill animal shelters in South Florida with the mission of rescuing and sheltering abandoned and abused cats and dogs with the goal of finding them new homes. APR's adoption center has about 150 cats and 30 dogs, all of which receive nutritious meals, veterinary care, enrichment and love.

APR, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, was founded in 1996 by a group of volunteers who were trapping, spaying and neutering feral cats and quickly realized the greater need to help abandoned pets and advocate for a no-kill community. APR is funded solely by generous donors and grants.
