My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Gator, the lovable canine companion with a heart of gold. Gator is a sweet-natured boy who excels in the role of a loyal and devoted companion. Having lived harmoniously with both dogs and cats, Gator proves himself to be a social butterfly, embracing the company of his furry friends with ease.
In addition to his furry companions, Gator also forms strong bonds with the older children in his home, cherishing their companionship and enjoying playful interactions. His gentle nature and affable demeanor make him a beloved member of the family.
Gator is not only a loving companion but also a well-trained one. He is crate trained and housebroken, showcasing his aptitude for good behavior and adaptability to routine. While he may occasionally exhibit excitable accidents when greeting new people, his eagerness to make friends shines through, albeit with a touch of exuberance.

With cues like sit and eat-eat (indicating mealtime), Gator demonstrates his willingness to learn and respond to commands. However, it's worth noting that Gator may exhibit some fearful and shy tendencies, particularly in new situations or with unfamiliar individuals.

For Gator, a home with older kids offers the ideal environment where he can thrive, supported by understanding and patient companions who appreciate his gentle nature and quirky personality. With love and care, Gator is sure to blossom into an irreplaceable member of the family, bringing joy and companionship to all who welcome him into their hearts.

More about this shelter

The Maryland SPCA connects wonderful pets to loving owners. We are not affiliated with any national animal organization, and we do not receive any government or United Way funding. Our mission is to prevent cruelty and neglect of animals through fostering the humane relationship between animals and people. We operate primarily in the Greater Baltimore Metropolitan area.

To make sure that our dogs and cats do not contribute to the pet overpopulation problem, every one is spayed or neutered before going into a new home. The cost is included in the adoption fee, as are the costs of shots and other necessary care. In addition, a free Positive Pooch class is available to our dog adopters.

There is no set time limit for how long an animal can remain in our adoption program. As long as an animal maintains general good health and a sound temperament, we keep him or her until adopted. We pride ourselves on providing premium care to the animals in a clean, pleasant environment. Our adoption staff works diligently to pair up adopters with the best animal match for their homes and lifestyles.

We transport animals from other shelters to our adoption center to help more animals get adopted. We also help pet owners find new homes for their pets so their animals don’t need to enter shelter care.
