My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Gretchen is a two-year-old fluffy black and white kitty with a personality as unique as her markings. She's a curious explorer, always ready to investigate every nook and cranny of her surroundings with her bright, intelligent eyes. Despite her youthful energy, she also loves moments of quiet relaxation, often found curled up in a cozy spot, her fluffy fur making her look like a little ball of warmth.

When she's not busy playing, Gretchen enjoys lounging in the sun, feeling the warmth on her fur as she takes lazy catnaps. She's a social kitty who adores attention and affection from her human companions, often seeking out cuddles and head scratches. Gretchen has a soft purr that's music to the ears, a sign of her contentment and happiness in her loving home.

Overall, Gretchen is a delightful addition to any household, bringing joy, laughter, and endless entertainment with her playful antics and sweet personality.

More about this shelter

We are the Jefferson County Humane Society and , except for our humane officers (who are paid very nominally), we are all volunteers! Our members were instrumental in getting a local levy passed to build a new and larger shelter and the doors opened in 2011. We are currently participating in Iams Home for the Holidays Program and the Purina Pets for People grant program. We are actively pursuing other grants and recently have been asked by the county to partner with them in the operation of the new shelter. Since we are a humane society, our main focus is on getting animals spayed and neutered so there are no more homeless pets. To that end, we bring in a mobile animal surgical clinic who performs spays and neuters at a reduced rate. We are always looking for volunteers to help us in our efforts and, of course, for financial contributions (we are a non-profit, 501 (c)3) and pet adopters! Other items such as food, treats, pet carriers, cages, leashes, collars, food bowls, etc. are also ALWAYS welcomed and appreciated. Please contact us if you have an item to be donated or would like to volunteer with us to try to save some of these homeless, but very loveable, dogs!
