My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.

Hatch date: Bobo 2020

Bobo is a very beautiful, 3-year-old male cockatiel. Bobo has had a complicated first few years of life. He came in as part of a pair, with his cage mate, Coco.  After they were surrendered, Bobo became aggressive and began to bully Coco, both in and outside of the cage. It became apparent that the two of them were not bonded, as Coco just wanted to get away from Bobo's bullying.  We decided to separate them and Coco is now part of a new flock in a great new home.

Unfortunately, Bobo became very depressed after the separation, so we brought in a new flock mate at his foster home, hoping Bobo would show some interest and come out of his depression. Davey, another male cockatiel, is housed in a cage near Bobo's, and Bobo has perked up and visits Davey on a regular basis, but he also thrives on the interactions he seeks out from the larger breed fosters in his home.  For this reason, Bobo MUST be adopted out only to a home that has at least another bird, preferably a larger breed bird, to preserve his good mental health.

He has come a long way and during his year in foster, he has reached some huge milestones
His vocabulary has expanded - " Hi the Bobes"
"Are you a good boy Bobee"
"Whatcha doin good boy"

The best part is that daily ( at least once or twice) he comes to sit on the couch for head scratches.
He has progressed to sitting on my shoulder to interact for his daily head massage.

He lives life on his terms, and is self assured. He absolutely loves out of cage time to fly, and will make it known that he wants that time.He will put himself in for bed, but most of the day, he is out freely.

Bobo loves to admire himself in any mirror, and will place his seeds on the ledge of his mirror to watch himself eat.

Bobo tends to be cage aggressive, and this is probably the reason Bobo didn't do well, and likely won't do well going forward, if he has to share his cage with another bird.  Similarly, he doesn't like people with their hands in his cage for feeding, cleaning, etc.  He becomes aggressive and has flown at and bitten his foster mom.  This is a very common bird behavior, but it isn't difficult to manage, as long as all are aware to use caution near his cage.

Bobo is very young and has many years ahead of him, so we are looking for someone with the time to work with him and form a bond that will last the rest of his life. He is a confident bird whose trust needs to be earned and boundaries respected.

Bobo is being fostered in Howell, NJ, and will only be adopted to a forever home within driving distance.
We will NOT ship our birds.
For the Love of Birds is a group of dedicated foster homes throughout NJ and Eastern PA -
we do not have a central location.
Bobo is living in a volunteer's private home; we only allow approved applicants to make visits.

Their adoption process

Additional adoption info

The adoption procedure begins with completing an adoption application and returning it to us. We will check your references and then call you for a telephone interview. While we check your references, we will ask that you review an educational power point presentation. After your application is approved, it is our policy that you visit with the bird(s) three times to have multiple interactions with them and give you time to consider the adoption and get ready for your new family member. There is an adoption fee for each bird.
